Microblogs in backlink strategy?

Is anyone here successfully using microblogs (revou, statusnet, etc) in their backlinking strategy? Are they still useful?

I don't see much talk about them here, but I noticed they make up the bulk of one of my competitor's backlinks, with the rest being some higher PR footer links that seem to be from other niche sites they own.

It seems like they could/should be on par with a social bookmark link? I was thinking of trying them out to backlink my tier1 sites.

You know, I also notice that a lot of my competitors use micro niche sites and footer links to sites they obviously own or have built.

Like you, I wondered why they weren't brought up much on this board either. Either the members here keep the best secretes to themselves or the easiest to do techniques are all that get discussed. I think its the latter. I think web 2.0s get discussed more because of the sheer amount of automated tools designed to post to them that are out there. There doesn't seem to be any tools that will automate the process of registering and building a bunch of smaller websites and linking them to your money site. Since most people look for the easy way to do things, senuke/venom/superweb20poster is all that gets discussed along with the techniques these tools allow.

The writings on the wall though. I see these types of links on ALOT of my competition. Perhaps a case study is needed.

There is a service here (by royalmice) that has micor blogs as PART of the backlink process I have had good success with it for low comp kw's. I dont know if it is directly due to the microblogs but it certainly has not hurt.

Id say they're a good idea, but still combine them with social links and create on a consistent basis, not a bulk amount at once.

Definitely going to keep it nice and diverse. In fact, I probably won't even point them at my money site.

I'm not sure I agree with you on the consistent basis part though...if people are SB blasting 10k or more blog comments at their tier1 and higher sites without issue, what's the problem with blasting out some microblog profiles/posts?

Instant Social Anarchy and MassLinkPoster are two that automate the microblog process. Not sure how well either of them work. After I saw my competitor's backlinks I started searching and found these two. I've downloaded MLP and messed with it some. Not overly impressed, but it might suffice.

ISA is in the downloads section. Not sure if MLP is, but it is easily found elsewhere if need be.

MLP: 65/541 elgg sites registered. laaa-aaame.

granted I didn't scrape my own for elgg, just used the provided list. but still. I certainly wouldn't pay for this.
BUT...I have about 250 accounts created so far between statusnet, revou, jisko, elgg. Just profiles so far which have a backlink. I've been cycling it through my ~20 tier1 sites on my one MNS.

I still have PHPfox and PHPizabi to go, only then will I try posting. Based on a test I did a few days ago, I am expecting only half or so will actually post, but hopefully the profile alone will be good enough for a backlink.

After this goes through I plan to try ISA to see if it's any better. I'm also keeping track of rankings and may start a case study thread if there's anything worthwhile.
