Lets say you find a Domain thats unused "gogles.com" - How do I find out how many people type that into their address bar? is their a tool I can use to find out the traffic to that?

Is there somebody who knows what are the rules for brand name domain registration? A domain like gogle com is not against the law?

I know someone outhere who is doing the exact same thing on a famous website.

Most of the biggest website has already a typo similar domain.

The person i know has around 50 domains on this website, and the method is working for him but it is hard work.
 
hmm.. I'm skeptical... you need luck to have a good typo domain with many visitors.
 
there is no actual way to tell how many visits or traffic a typo domain get

u can reasearch the typo domains in google KW tool and see how many traffic it has

i stumbled upon a killer niche with lots of typos , like 20-30 within the same niche /product. but i never started off the project coz when u do seo for the typo , the person will get a suggestion from google on the top result page .(this is what makes me backoff)

any suggestion regarding this can be helpful as the niche with typos are still available
 
I've done a typo for facebook before and that twittter.com site come up.

Pretty sure he/she has a good few of them sites going to multiple typo's.

Keyword discovery paid subscription provides datas of typo search stats and will suggest available domain names as well. Yahoo's defunct Overture was a great tool to identify monthly type-in searches, bad thing it'was gone.
 
Probably a decent method for the people who were lucky enough to get good domains, but the stuff that is available now probably would bring little to no traffic.

I just did a quick search for google and facebook using the tool posted above. Not one variation was available from around 120 domains.
 
99% of the good typo domains are already caught. faecbook, fcaebook, facebbok etc...
You should get these pretty much early, just search Alexa for 6+ characters domain names, or you won't get nothing.
 
You guys are thinking within the box. There are PLENTY of other authority sites that aren't facebook, youtube, livejournal, etc. USE YOUR BRAINS! It's also a #'s game. Don't think you're going to just put up one site and retire. (though I'm sure the guys that got the facebook, youtube, twitter etc are making a pretty penny).
 
I also wanted to say that making your money with typo traffic isn't worth if you 50 domains are worth one really good (top 20? alexa) domain. It's just tiring to set up 50 of these, 'cause you can make better money with setting any 50 minisites of something else.
