Well, I've retired this method from my own personal use since I no longer promote free products. Good luck to anyone who wants to use it. I have never read anything at all on this site about the use of Toolbars. It might be because of they're not easy to get initially, but you can do some very devious things with them.
So, what's the best way to make people remember your website? Keep flashing it in front of their face. Every time they're on the web, make sure they see your website, and make them wonder if anything has changed. The first part of this is going to be the hardest part. Set up your website with current and evolving free products ads. Make sure you rotate them once in a while so people see the old ones, and make sure you have an easy way for THEM to share the links. Possibly give people an incentive to promote ("New Products", "Double Entry Into Raffle", whatever).
Now, here comes the blackhat part. Head over to your favorite "Find a Freelancer" service, or maybe someone here with the ability will offer up such a service *Nudge Nudge*. Find someone who is capable of creating a Toolbar for MSIE and FireFox.
For those of you who can program in C#, I have used the BandObjectLib to create all 3 of my Toolbars. It works wonders, and can even be migrated to the Task Bar, not just MSIE and whatnot.
Make sure somewhere on the toolbar there's a pretty gleaming button to bring them back to your site, and/or, directly to a random offer.
Now, anyone who's a regular to your site has the opportunity to install your cool new toolbar, and fill in MULTIPLE offers for you, woot!
How do you get people to install it? First, make sure you tell people that they will get EXCLUSIVE OFFERS by installing the toolbar, even if they won't.
Well, I always packaged my stuff with torrents. You can upload torrents yourself or find 'uploaders' and 'couriers', and give them a reason to package your installer in X number of their torrents per day. You'd be surprised how many people install it just because it was in the torrent. This can be done with Rapidshare packages as well.
Run the gamut with this one. If you're going to play it White Hat, just submit it to the various Softpedia like sites out there. If you want to go black hat, bind your installer with other in-demand software. If you want to stay gray hat, just link to it in your signature on forums and disguise it as something it's not.
If you're really feeling crazy, go ahead and bind that up with your favorite CPA Pay Per Install software. I've never done this portion, but it can be done. It might tarnish the reputation of your site a little though!
