I would never use that technique anymore since Google doesn't visit your site as Google bot all the time. This is one of the easiest cloaking methods Google is able to detect.
Cloaking this days needs a lot more than an easy bot-redirect. You need daily updated lists of IPs under which Google operates and they're very hard to come by.
I didn't know you could perform this kind of action to gain one-way links without Google detecting that you have a secondary site. I might have to read through this again, but I would be concerned about the ip tracing of the sites. I know there is ways around this, but is this kind of linking method detectable at all by search engines?
