All you need is traffic. But if you are asking such a general question I am guessing you don't have traffic yet. So focus on that first then ads/whatever.

If you're just starting out a good practice would be AdSense. It will make you drive alot of traffic to make money. And those traffic driving skills will translate well when you transition to CPA/PPD.

2.a) Adsense/Amazon/CPA banners for informative niches
2.b) Affiliate programs, own product and/or e-mail squeeze for selling products (needs sharper content and more planning, but then again: more money)

Adesense is the way to go, the more you push the blog, the more you'll earn. Just depends on how much effort you.want to put in at the beginning.

AdSense is a great place to start if you have 1,000 visitors/day or so. Even with less visitors, Google will still crawl your site more frequently.
