Now recently i've been playing with Facebook PPC, and I thought I would post my experience here. I have personally tested and use the stuff I am about to reveal on a daily basis.

Now anyone that knows anything about Marketing will know the sales funnel theology - you take people and pour them into a marketing funnel and the further down they go the more money they spend with you - and i've implemented it with facebook.

What you need is Facebook ad credit (see my thread here to get $100 free - http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...get-100-free-facebook-advertising-credit.html ) and a VCC/CC to keep on file with facebook (though u delete your ad's before u reach this stage).

Now I am for the first and only time going give you my facebook PPC strageties that I use every single day to pull in new customers and earn.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Facebook is amazing because...
1. You can target by demographics
2. You can target by interest
3. You can (if you know how) get stupid stupid CPC

First of all, the most important thing to know/remember is that facebook loves their traffic, and even though your paying for it, they hate you taking a visitor away. We can capitalise on this.

Lets look at the normal advertisers facebook sales funnel:

Code:
Facebook PPC Ad
      |
      V
Sales Page

Generally the CPC for these clicks are higher than they are with the sales funnel i've developed. My sales funnel looks like this...

Code:
     Facebook PPC Ad
           |
           V
     Facebook Fan Page
      | |
      V V
Friend Updates Sales Page
      |
      V
Sales Page

Now this looks more complicated, however once you understand it your laughing.

1. Facebook loves keeping visitors on their site (as they have CPM ads running as well as CPC), so they allow you to advertise Facebook Fan pages, and generally the CPC is lower than any other advertising. Today on a couple of ad's I am running I am paying $0.06 a click. So if you advertise something on facebook = you pay less. Also i've noticed that if I advertise on site content rather than off site content my ad's get approved a lot faster (within 10 - 15mins)

2. So we have them as fans on our page now, the sales funnel branches here:
a) We have our site URL listed in our info section so if people are very interested we can convert them straight away
b) Each time we update our status it appears in EVERY fan's updates, this is absolutely amazing!

3. We can attach a link to our status updates, which appear in the updates for every single fan. With this link we can include a image from the page we are linking to - on some of my campaigns this increases conversions by 400%!

4. They reach your sales page and join your list as normal -> and you can move them further down the funnel to your big products.

Now that is the Facebook Funnel, I hope many of you implement it in your everyday facebook advertising use, as it works wonders! Being able to change your status to say you just launched a competion/brought x/got a discount code for... etc and have 20k fans see it in their updates is a big massive earner for anyone!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I am not finished, here is how I find who goes into my funnel...

Facebook has amazing tagetting features, so generally I make my target demographic as small as possible.

This is my general target selection stragety (for a email submit to win backstage tickets to the Eastenders tv-show set)

1. I limit by county, for example United Kingdom
2. I limited by gender, for example Female
3. I limit by relationship status/education, for example In Uni/College
4. I limit by interest, for example Eastenders
5. I limit by age (I will split 1 campaign into age groups) i.e. I will have seperate campaigns for ppl 18, ppl 19, ppl 20, ppl 21 etc

I then set my max bid at the minimum suggested to get a few clicks through, I will come back the next morning and lower my bid by $0.10, and do this for every hour until I get no clicks for a 24 hour period when i will raise it $0.05.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was speaking to a couple of people after I posted this originally, and some things came up so this is going be a kinda FAQ style bit:

1. What cpa offers convert?
I've worked with nearly every type of non-cc offer using these methods

2. Do I need to reflect the offer in my group?
No. For example for the Eastenders example, you'd create a "Best Eastenders Fan Group" fan page, and each day you'd post a update about that day's episode, member of the cast etc for a week or so, and then you would throw in this Competition you've found

3. Where do I get free advertising credit to test this?
Look up at the top of the thread - or click here http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...get-100-free-facebook-advertising-credit.html

4. I can't find a offer that would work?
How do you know it won't work? Have you tried it? Get some free credit + a VCC and give it a shot.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enjoy people :D

In your experience, do you think adding this extra step increases your conversions? Or is it cheaper ad cost that weigh into the matter?

It increases my conversions as well as saving me money.

1. They see other fans on your fan page = increases your credibility/trust straight away
2. If you update your status a couple of times a day they get to recognise you and engage with you so you are no longer just a randomer telling them to buy something.
3. Depending on the niche you can start controvesial discussion threads as well to engage people.

nice strategy, I also used facebook ads to make some good money, however I prefer their CPM model because you actually get to pay very little for clicks as well, and I usually make my image stand out (use bright yellow font + related picture) I noticed this gets the best click through. Anyhow facebook is a gold mine I recommend for everyone to try it, you can get some nice conversions as long as you target the proper people.

The dreaded CPC vs CPM. Generally my advice with CPM unless you know what you are doing stick to CPC.

CPM is where you are charged for every 1000 times your ad is shown. With my facebook campaigns my CPM cost is always much higher than my CPC costs as I super target my market.

HTH

Yea... I've never thought of this. Definitely gave me some ideas.

Now I've personally done some PPC on MSN but I was told to stay away from Facebook ppc. I might have to give this a shot.

What do you think is a good budget to start with for this?

This works friggin' sweetly - what a great post - much thanks - and for anybody concerned about the credit card verification - somehow magically they do not even send through a charge to verify - I have used this twice already via old Visa Green Dot cards with negative balances - LOL -

Thanks for the advice on how to get credit for facebook, will start a campaign today.

Facebook doesn't need to be CC verified, you just need a CC on your account to continue billing after your voucher is used up. If you stop your ad's before your voucher runs out, you've literrally got free advertising (apart from VCC)

Thanks for the advice on how to get credit for facebook, will start a campaign today.

Goood on ya! The only way this means anything is if you take action!

And one other word of advice, for testing set your campaign budget low, like $5 - $10 as if you've not got new fans to your fan page with that you need to go back and check your copy etc.

hey crashed, what do your landing pages look like?
i mean, if you'd rather now show us (i don't blame you), could you give a description or an idea? if it's any diff from building a squeeze page anywhere else.
do you just copy the CPA offer's ad copy and images? do you invest a lot of time customizing it towards your specific niche?

aslo, now that the free offer wont work supposedly (i have not tried yet) with vcc's, is it possible to keep using this 100$ offer with different FB created accounts? are you still getting more 100$ credits with your real CC? i'd figure they would connect you to one FB account and 1 CC. or is this not the case?

thanks!

also, do you use the direct affiliate links when you send updates?
or do you use something like CPA re-director?
do CPA networks mind if you send traffic from FB. i mean afterall you are paying for ads, it's just not to the network directly, using your funnel method.

i'm trying this out to see how much the clicks would come out to and here are my filters:
age: 18-18
male
united states
education - all
single, male
blank on everything else. and if i start to type any kind of keyword (broad key words), it goes down to estimated 2 clicks a day at between .40 to .60 cents. (min bid)
if i leave the keywords blank, its .68 min bid with about 67 estimated clicks.
and this is advertising internally to a test FB fan page.

are these numbers normal?

definately not lol

good method how can u lower bid to 0.05 whats ur ctr?

Follow my tips on targetting, personally my Ctr is normally in the 0.03% range.

Landing page from the PPC ad is a Fan page, this fan page is generalised to the ad topic. Say I was doing a weight loss trial, I'd make a fan page for each state and call it "California Weight Loss Support Group", find some basic diet ideas/recipes and post them on the discussion board etc... Thats probably more than I should have said but meh, enjoy :P

No, I use a DMR service that I wrote with a few bells and whistles.
The networks I use don't know the source as it all (including white hat leads) goes through my DMR script

Whats your Post Quality score? Usually when using fb ad's my post quality is in the high 60's?
Also you must have something set wrong in ur targeting, I'd change the age to 18-19 and see if that made any difference. Also make sure you set it to Everywhere under the box you type the United States.

Hope this helps,

after they click on your ads and join the page/group, do you send the direct offers (the CPA landing page) to them or do you get a domain and push them there (where you do the DMR)? i'm still fuzzy on this one. i'm not sure how CPA networks feel about FB traffic. even though in this case you are paying for them, it's just not going from ad---> CPA offer. is a DMR necessary/redirect necessary in your opinion for FB?

i wasn't aware there was a quality score tbh, i have yet to create a FB ad. ok for testing purposes with your example to see what the clicks come out to here are the specs:

489,420 people
who live in the United States
who live in California
between the ages of 18 and 19 inclusive
who are female

Suggested Bid: 0.44 - 0.58 USD
Estimate: 97 clicks per day

am i tottally out of the ball park on these clicks? should they be way lower to start with?

In the USA...
Suggested bid: $0.42 - 0.55 USD
in uk 0,66+
in germany 0,66+
...

Usually what I notice is my bids start higher, then around 5-6 hours later it lowers the suggested bid.

Each page has a Post Quality score, and a # of interactions that week. Usually the higher this is the better. Generally when I create a page I will add around 100+ people as fans before I start my PPC as this does affect it.

what about the landing page?
once they join the page are you messaging them or updating the FB feed the CPA offer directly with your aff link, or do you direct them to a domain/site you bought and built out, where the DMR is done.
reason i ask because i'm wondering if cpa networks view FB traffic like they would craigslist traffic. if they frown upon it.
