Hey BH'ers I put this in BH SEO section, but this seems much more appropriate. Many of you probably have learned a thing or 2 about seo from bhw and have applied many things you've learned to your own sites and figured out your own little methods that have gotten your keywords ranked or generated your site some traffic. Then there comes a time where you feel ready to offer your SEO &/or online skills as services to other people who have no knowledge in the area and could use someone like you. The best place to start is local. You know your area and many small business like the idea of hiring someone in their area so they can meet face to face. There are many things you can offer local business's in your area: 1. Ranking local keywords (Denver air conditioning repair, miami mini golf, san francisco gun range, etc...) 2. Site fixes and improvements (design work, copy, add a blog, create mobile version of site) 3. Make sure they are found on all business listing sites 4. Offer them In-house work, you have a ton of skills and currently looking for a job (I've worked for several companies in the past doing inhouse website/seo work. Getting paid to learn basically, took 3 days to get 5 job interviews and get hired) 5. Run adword campaigns for them (only recommend this if you truly think you can benfit them, or else you might waste a lot of their money) 6. Social media campaigns for their bizz ...etc... get creative You get the idea. There are TONS of things that you have learned here on BHW that a local business in your area would love to have. Even if you just have basic knowledge of things like building a site and some basic SEO skills this is enough to land a job in no time. Many companies want an IT guy on deck and are eager to hire a young lad willing to work at reasonable prices. I got a job at 18 years old working for an air-conditioning company. Basically they gave me a little desk, I brought my own laptop to work and did stuff like fix things on their site. Make sure they were listed on sites like google business and other business search engines. I also played around a lot with some traffic sources. They only paid me $13 an hour, but hey I was basically getting paid to keep learning (I spent 80% of my time at that job cruising on BHW anyways...) But this doesn't have to be an offline thing at all! You can do the same thing for business's working from your home. So whatever it might be that you are selling or offering you need to be able to contact business from your area. This is how you can get those leads. I will write out the steps that you can take. There is also a tutorial video I will post at the bottom that you can watch that will clear things up on how to generate local leads from your area. I've personally worked with the developers of this tool and have contributed to many of it's features. Steps: 1. You need TEAR, the free version works just fine for this method (this is not an aff. link btw) 2. Once you have it opened. Go to 'Email Scraper' tab at the top center. 3. Click 'Add New Project' and name it whatever you want, then add it and click 'Open Project' 4. When your project is opened click on 'Google Business' Tab on the left side 5. Enter the city, state you are trying to get leads for and click 'Find Location' 6. The 'GPS Dots' option under the map, max it out to the highest setting 7. Type in the business keywords you want it to search for. So if you want an airconditiong company you might type in (ac,airconditioning, heating, cooling, ventilation) 8. Click on 'Collect Websites' This software will now find every business matching those keywords in that area. Then it will check those business's for websites. Once it's done searching it will tell you how many business's it found in your area. 9. Click on 'Websites' tab on the left side 10. You will see all the collected websites. Right click one of the websites and push 'Start All' It will now search all those websites for contact emails. When it's done searching the websites you can then verify the collected leads to make sure they are valid address's. You now have a nice list of emails of those specific business's in your local area. Now it's time to contact them. It's important you don't send a message that sounds spammy or you won't get very many responses. I would send all the leads you collected something like this: "Hey, I live in (city) and have come across your business several times. I've always been interested in what you guys do. I'm xx years old and have been doing website/seo/marketing work for x years now. I have ranked blah blah on the first page of google, and have helped generate leads for blah blah companies. Are you guys currently hiring? I have been looking over your site and think I could be a huge benfit to you guys. Would love to hear back from you guys. Call me at xxx.xxx.xxxx or email me back at [email protected]" You can easily add your personal or fake gmail, yahoo or hotmail account into TEAR and have it send out these emails or you can extract the emails into a text file and mail them however you want. In the past when I was younger and had more time I used this method to find business looking for guys to work in-house. I would land about 6 interviews from every 100 emails I sent out and 50% of the time would be offered the job. At the time I honestly wasn't very experienced in SEO, but they loved having me because changing a small thing on their site that took them a week before I could do for them in a couple hours. (I was decent at html then and working on sites was easy) I don't have time to work at a desk at some small business anymore, but this same method can easily get you clients that are ok with you working from your home. This is a killer method if you own a SEO company and trying to get more clients. The key is to think outside the box Also... here is the video released by the software company itself that goes over this business lead scraper. It's only about 10 minutes long and really covers all the core features of the scraper. 100% I recommend you give it a watch. Feel free to give your tips on helping people with this method. I'll try to answer all questions to my best knowledge. You can always pm me, i'm easy to reach on skype.
