Don't think anyone mentioned here..
When I post a job on odesk I usually ask for a sample of their work,
give them my niche and keyword phrase..
By the time I hire someone, I have about 10-15 free articles, 1 employee and a few email addresses for future work or CPA's, I also pay them outside odesk and save 10%

This is like a lot of work. I can just get a 400 word article for my niche in 15 minutes if I type it.

Somebody suggested this exact same technique a month or so ago and they got slatted to hell over it with people telling them it was too evil
(I thought it was a good idea back then and I think its a good idea now though lol)

To answer the above this works but you have to experiment with different ads and replies. Unless they know they are going to write a sample from the get-go 75% will not reply to your "sample" proposal. You have to write a more targeted ad to weed out the useless people who reply with "call me ---" ect.
This is a solid short term method to get investment capital for other long term projects that are proven to earn a decent income like doing seo for a couple hundred MN adsense sites for example..
If anyone has the money/ ability to post ads to several cities or software like CLAD please PM me. I have a solid gameplan/twist off this method that will earn handsome money,, I just don't have the software/resources/capital not to mention skill to mass post on craigslist.

Yes I followed that method exactly and it isn't as effective as one would think. Instead of his generic general writers recruitment you basically have to post a niche ad (i.e puppy training writers wanted) and assign a particular niche assignment and explain it's the only fair way of selecting writers. His disclaimer is pretty good though, be sure to include it in the reply.

Yeah this is wired that the rate of job losing and jobless people is growing dramatically almost all of the cities. It has become almost a common view. In fact, the situation becomes bad to worse to the cites has much more populated. I think no one don't know to solve the problem.

Yeah it kind of is, but then again, if you find a decent writer you'll probably want to keep them on if you can
I'd probably run this scam in spain or somewhere like that (45% unemployment in some regions of spain when its off season, how insane is that!), at least that way if I find someone decent I could hire them

In this economy I'm fine with doing it as a short term thing to invest in minisite projects down the road
The government is also pretty immoral, giving mortgage tax returns as an incentive to get people to buy homes who can't even afford it.Just get that $$$ ! lol
