This poker method was my first method that I came up with on my own and made decent money out of. It is a method that I was using back in 2009 or so before the shit hit the fan for online poker sites in the US. There are several twists that can be made to make this viable again with some imagination and a little work. If nothing else, I think this is a niche that get's overlooked quite often as over-saturated/too competitive. But it can be very profitable with a little ingenuity. Hell, this may even still work with non-us traffic as several other major countries can still play online poker for real money. I'm not going to include any affiliate links or anything like that in here, this is just something I wanted to share and maybe spark an old idea I profited heavily off of into something new for someone.
So the main poker platform I used was Full Tilt Poker, simply because it was the software I was most comfortable with. Any poker site that allows you to host your own tournaments will work for this. The beauty of tournaments on Full Tilt was there was a dedicated section for "player hosted" tournaments that would allow you to place a description, as well as name for your room. I had a website setup with instructions on how to gain entry to the tournament (a CPA offer) and put just had the password for the tournament behind a content locker.
For traffic, and this was the best part, people on these poker sites always want to enter the free tournaments with real cash prizes. So you setup a tournament for $30 or so. Make the prizes tiered ($15 for first, $10 for second, and $5 for third) and make put the title as "free tournament for website.com members" or something similar. Lastly, the description just make a nice call to action to get new members to your website. You can go around to other poker forums and advertise your tournament too to get additional signups.
I took it a little further and made a community out of it. Set up a forum for people to chat and post topics, started tournaments on other poker sites to gain traffic from those platforms too. I would run 2 - 4 tournaments a week, all they would have to do is complete a CPA offer and they were guaranteed entry. What I enjoyed most was being able to participate in the tournaments myself to try and win my own money back. Sometimes I would finish in the money and sometimes I wouldn't, but I had a lot of fun doing it while it lasted.
I ran a lot of tests, figuring out bigger rewards bringing in more traffic, different times of days, etc. I think the biggest I did was a $1000 tournament that netted me juts under $3k. But I had the most success doing $75 - $100 and those returning $400 - $500 after I built up the community for it.
Once a couple of the poker sites took off with my money, I dropped the method. Like I stated originally, this is my personal method used close to 7 - 8 years ago, so your mileage may definitely vary. Hopefully this can help someone make something from it and I didn't just waste my time writing all this up.
