Register Your Wedding and Make Money! (links are broken because I am still new to the forums. Images as well.)

Register Your Wedding and Earn Free Money with simple SEO and Affiliate Marketing!

Why wouldn't you? I'm not asking you to sign on for some get rich quick scheme, I'm just about to give you one of the most BASIC ways that marketers make money on the internet... and show you a way that you can apply it to yourself. Why not benefit? You want free cash and if you think you don't, check your pulse.

(Mind you, this example is tailored to my friends who are about to take the plunge. You can apply this easy way to earn cash to a birthday wish list, Christmas, Graduation... get creative. Sky's the limit.)

When your wedding rolls around, you're thinking about decor, dresses, cakes and floral arrangements. What terrible combinations of colors you can force your bridesmaids into or what style of flask you're going to have your groomsmen's names engraved in (alongside your "oh so hilarious" catch phrase from college) and you're probably not picking apart your plan to turn your wedding into a business.

You should probably start to think like a true marketer and see what opportunities sit before you. Every day, all around you. This one is so simple, I've been doing it for years with special events.

    What you will need:

    • An Amazon Associates account
    • Basic HTML knowledge
    • A Blogger blog page for your registry

    Lets get started!

Go to Amazon and find the items you want to add to your cash making registry. Go to your Amazon Associates dashboard and search those items by description to match them for an affiliate link.

Grab every affiliate link (I recommend shortening them for vanity) for the appropriate items or if you have an understanding of affiliate marketing, progress into the link builder and nail your affiliate code to the appropriate links. Take the links and copy>paste them into your .txt document with their descriptions.

Label the items something different than their full product description. If it says "NEW TOASTER MADE IN USA", you should probably place a label of "Black and Decker Toaster" above the .txt file link instead.

Also, save the main image for each item, name them accordingly and save them to a folder on your desktop. You will use these in the blog.

    Set up your Blogger blog.

Name it whatever you would like, pick a template that supports a strong image presence. A center scroll is ideal. You do not need to attach too many other layout items to your blog as this blog should be themed for this specific event.

If you decide to keep it as a wedding photo blog, thats great. I will explain to you how you can continue to convert very easily AFTER your wedding at the end of this post.

In the "Compose" section, you should label each gift and after the label, then insert and center the appropriate picture of the item on your post. (You can place each item in as an individual post or you can place them all in one post.)

Your result should be something like this:

    Black and Decker Toaster

    (Picture of a B & D toaster linked)

Select the "HTML" tab on your blog and use Imgur or another image hosting program to get an image link. This entire tutorial is based on aBlogger blog, so the code can vary. Often, blogs have an easier image linking option, but the light box default in Blogger creates a workaround.

You will then need to take that image link and attach it to the affiliate link of the appropriate item. Your HTML will look something like this:

    < div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
    <a href="your_affiliate _url_ here" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="225" width="300" src="your_image _here." /></a></div >

Or if you would like the image to pop into a new window, use this:

    < div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
    <a href="your_affiliate _url_ here" target="_blank" imageanchor="1"style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="225" width="300" src="your_imag e_here" /></a></div >

In your "Compose" section, you will be able to return and label each image accordingly as well using the properties function for alt text, etc. This ultimately depends on if you think the extra effort is worth it in potentially converting just by organic search traffic.

    I do.

Continue to do this with each item on your list from the .txt document and the folder of images, creating a long stream of "wants" on your page. If you are savvy, create a tile display for your items.

There are hundreds of ways to present your affiliate links, this is just the basic way to create a platform. I beg you to think outside of the box, I don't want to give away all of my techniques.

One you have followed these steps, you can take your blog and tweet it, post it on Google Plus and Facebook, place it into an email to your family, friends, guests of the wedding, etc.

Distribute your list to as many people as you want to. I would recommend placing something encouraging people to share the list with any friends that may ask about gifting you and let them know that this is the comprehensive list of your gift ideas. Encourage people not to diverge from your blog list.

You should probably do this gracefully.
    Good luck with that.
A little extra effort will get you paid.
    Happy marketing!

For the serious marketer, a twist:

If you are interested in continuing to make conversions on the affiliate links you have associated with the blog, I would recommend following up your wedding with photo posts to the blog with your gifts as they sit in your new home. Write a review for EACH item, labeling it properly.

(The important part about this is that if you have received a toaster, do not just label it toaster. Go all out if you want, place the model name in the title, but include brands. This will build your on page SEO.)

In your review, talk about how much you love "x" feature and "y" is really cool. Mention something silly about why its the perfect gift from "John Doe" because you burnt your dorm down together in college because he forgot to unplug the Black and Decker Toaster. (See what I did there...)

Repeat the steps above for linking the photos, just this time use different photos that you've taken. Share the updates on each review with your friends on social. You can do this over time or do it all at once, that depends on how much effort you want to put into it, but for something this simple, its easier than a "Thank You" note, more entertaining... and will turn a profit.

There are many ways to attach affiliate widgets to your site, consistently update a wish list that is attached to your affiliate codes and many other options you can use, but I recommend you try this one out. Also, something to remember, nearly EVERY merchant has an affiliate program.

I guess it depends on your level of blogging, but I feel like my handholding through the post should make it a fairly simple process. :)

I often crack up at how many marketers I know that dont apply their ABC rules to their home and personal life.
