It has value if you build tier 2 links to them.

If you don't like subdomain link, here is non subdomain links that have value for sure https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/tutorials-juicy-contextual-links-on-dr-80-96-sites.1128822/

No tools. Just send some tier 2 links to your links.
 
I think where I have issues is the manifest.yml. Where do I get my host application url and name?
 
Make sure you add content to the index.html file
Make sure you do a couple of commits ..

then it works
