Hi friends, when renting a server, I always scan the ip blocks assigned to my box and lookup all the domains that still point to the IPs that I now control.
Oftentimes I find a number of domains and take advantage of this. For example, I found a gay porn domain pointing to one of my IPs assigned to my box so I setup a vhost for that domain in apache and put up a quick page with gay porn videos and affiliate banners. For domains with numerous links, use the "ErrorDocument 404" directive in your config. Example is a hentai domain that used to host numerous hentai links posted all over the various forums. I got a ton of free traffic from this one, redirected them all to a single page. really quick and easy method with lots of potential.
Bonus: scan IPs to see if they used to run a DNS. This really does happen and you can score from some guy who abandoned hundreds of domains.
Sometimes the IP is of a primary DNS of a working domain thats been relying on a seconday dns all this time. Never happened to me but this happens, people are sloppy.
So obviously email the admin and notify them when you see any of the above.
