[METHOD] FREE .GOV Backlinks

Here is a method that I have been using a year now.
Want to get a .gov backlink?

Visit to this pages:

http://franklin-tn.gov/redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com
http://greensboro-nc.gov/redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com
http://plymouthmn.gov/redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com
http://shorelinewa.gov/redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com
http://www.burbankca.gov/redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com

Just substiture yoursite.com with your link
I'm sure you will be able to find more of these yourself =)

Now just get those links indexed, I think Lindexed or Linklicious should do the job =)

I don't think this counts as a backlink, as it's a page notifying only you that you're going to a web pages outside of that .gov website.

I'm confused too, how does this count as a backlink?, they're not letting you submit your url there anywhere or adding it to their database, but if I'm wrong please explain to me how?

Maybe I can help.
If this works like I am assuming it works, then it's actually quite clever.

By getting those links indexed Google will crawl to the redirect page. On this page it finds a backlink to your site, from a .gov. It may be only a temporary page to you and I, but the robot - being unable to think outside the world of 0's and 1's, sees it as a permanent page.

Whether or not the robot is smart enough to realize that everything behind the ? in the URL is to be ignored, that is for somebody more knowledgeable than myself. However, if this actually works - it's a great idea.

Well, I saved the url and loaded it again and my link was still shown. Maybe if you pinged the url might do some good?

I'm confused too because the url will not stored in there server, just like an input field.

If you want to add a keyword to your url and give it even more weight you can do this:
change the redirect.aspx to this:
redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com/">keyword

so basically it is www.mydomain.com and add ">keyword to it
so for example if you visit:
http://www.burbankca.gov/redirect.aspx?url=http://yoursite.com/">keyword

And look at the source code you will see your keyword for your url. Just a little xss ;-)

I used a lot of these, even scraping non-gov/edu sites to exploit the same handling of external URLs. After hitting them with bookmarks, they did nothing for me nor are they visible in any backlink checking tool I've used (including WMT data). It's a dead end in getting gov/edu backlinks IMO.

You are saying that google would ignore it because it has a URL parameter?
How come do forum profile links work then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=398245

following your logic google would ignore the u parameter and never visit the profile.
The pages are wrote about are not temporary, they are permanent, every time google visits the URL it will see the link, the only reson why this may not influence your ranking that well is because there is no text on the page relevant to your link. But its still a gov backlink
