This method is very simple and straight forward. You can apply it to any niche, and I am sure you will find some good keywords that will bring you additional traffic.

Tools:

For this, you will need Ahrefs or Semrush subscription (you need paid one, if you are in bad situation, you can get them for $5 on fiverr, but don't expect them to last long)
Also, I use SimilarWeb chrome extension (it's free), just to see if certain website is getting traffic.

Introduction:

Basically what are we going to do is find properties that generally are easy to outrank, plug them into one of the tools above and see what keywords are they ranking for.

For this guide, I am going to be using Internet Marketing niche.

Generally, properties that are easy to outrank are forums, q&a sites, video-audio-photo-whatever submission sites (youtube, vimeo, stock photo sites, slideshare)

These type of sites often don't care about seo.
Have you optimized posts you made on this forum? Of course you didn't, that's why it is easy to outrank keywords that forums rank for.

Step by Step:

Find these properties in your niche.
My niche is IM, so for this example I am going to be using this forum, blackhatworld.com, as an example.

Plug them into Ahrefs or Semrush.

Click on Organic Keywords, it will come up with keywords that BHW is ranking for.

Now we want to filter keywords that are worthy considering.
Show only keywords ranking in positions 1-20
Sort keyword by traffic they bring to BHW (You can also sort by position, but sometimes forum is ranking 5# for higher volume keyword, which brings them more traffic than 1# for lower volume keyword)

Go manually keyword by keyword.
On this example, we obviously wont go for keyword ''blackhatworld'' because people searching for that are looking for this forum.
Second keyword is ''alboraaq'' which is something related to carding, illegal stuff, so we won't go into it.
Third keyword is ''subxcess'' which is some kind of social network community, we can easily break into first spots with article ''subxcess review'' and get some nice portion of traffic.
I am sure we could go on and find dozens of nice and easy keywords.

Additional tips:

- This keywords are not commercial, so you won't make money just by them. But they are very easy to rank for, with good onpage optimization you can easily break into 1st page. Why they are good then? Well, if you for example have email list, you can get subscribers, they can purchase your product, they can read your other articles and click on your affiliate links.

- Semrush has more options to filter keywords, you can also filter with results, less results, less competition.

- Forums are not only weak sites, if there are no forums in your niche (which I doubt, you just need to search deep), there are youtube videos, web 2.0s, q&a sites... Be creative.

Nice approach. Kw research is a headache for me. This is just brilliant! Thanks a lot dude!

I usually use Ahrefs and SEMrush to do this :D.
If you are looking for cheap premium Ahref accounts, visit Fiverr and get an one-month premium account with just $5.

Glad you like it!

Yep I mentioned fiverr, although it's not really a longterm solution, so when you have funds, go with some premium group buy or just purchase them directly.

Nice approach, but these tools are too expensive to me

Nice method.... never would have thought of using Ahref for that

Thanks

Wow, I'm impressed of this 'think outside of the box' method, thanks. Let's dig some gold out from this weak sites everyone.

This method has been awhile for sometime on the net. Do not trust semrush on the ranking part. Most of them are not accurate.

cool. thanks for the method dude.

I don't know what you mean by not accurate, but I found these tools as best way to filter keywords and manually go from there.

That's not a bad way to do it to be fair, but it has issues.

Non commercial keywords are fucking pointless, there is no point ranking unless it's going to convert to cash.

You also have to take semrush's traffic stats with a pinch of salt, I know for sites I run they are massively incorrect. Even their adwords spend is way out... our spend is $90/year according to them. It was closer to $30,000 in real life.

For the best non-competition keywords you are going to have to look at sites like amazon/ebay/other huge brands and see what they are ranking for, at this point imagine analysing all the keywords amazon ranks for... It's a huge task.

You may as well do what I do, gather millions of keywords, run them through keyword idea tools, filter out low volume keywords, anaylise everything (use custom scripts for this, commercial software cannot handle the volume), and work with what you have left. It's much less work.

This way, you are already working with low competition keywords. Your only job is to manually find which are worthy to go for.
Yes they are not commercial, but maybe you have missed this part:
"Well, if you for example have email list, you can get subscribers, they can purchase your product, they can read your other articles and click on your affiliate links."

Well, no tool is super accurate. But we work with what we have, not everyone has resources for custom bots and scripts ;)

What about ranking for easy keywords to gain authority for your site? Or how about adsense earnings that dont require buyer keywords to get people to click on the ads?

There are a lot of non-commercial keywords you'd want to rank for if you want to monetize via something other than CPA. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the tip I'm bookmarking this!

Non-commercial keywords are just a longer approach to conversion, which doesn't make them pointless at all. Instead of cash, you earn trust, which converts to cash easily.
