Hi guys,
I know this method is not new, but it's working fine for me here and I would like to share it with people that never saw the method before.

I live in Brazil and even IM here is growing, it's hard to do IM here or from here.
Offline Marketing seemed a good idea, but how to get your first clients? How to get the business owner's trust if you don't have a live work to show them?

So, why not to give these first clients a website for free?

How does it work?
1 - Become a Hostgator Affiliate (or any other hosting affiliate program)
2 - Build a site to promote your services (use a nice theme like doover for WP)
3 - Gather some potential clients
4 - Offer a free website saying your company is new and you need to build your portfolio. Explain that the only requiriment is they have to singup with your partner for a hosting plan.
5 - Build a nice site for them (use wordpress and a nice theme) and upsell other services

You can earn like $100 per signup with Hostgator.
If you want to be a offliner after this, you could become a reseller and earn monthly from the hosting.

A reseller plan starts at $24.95. If you can get 10 clients and charge them $9.99 (cheap) ... You get $99.90
Remember those offline sites don't need a super hosting, they're not going to receive thousands visitors a day.

How to find clients?
Well, there are many ways to do that.

1 - Search you local business directory for business that don't have sites informed on the listing. If you don't like cold calling, try to filter the ones that show their emails. (here in Brazil almost all listings have email)
Right now I've made 26 clients. 3 of them calling, even I've sent them an email some days before.

2 - Post Ads on local sites like Craigslist offering the free sites

3 - Find Facebook and Google + Groups on niches like dentists, beauty salons, plumers, real state agents, etc... be part of the group and post the ad you've made above, like you have found on the web. Use a real account to post the ads. Try to find open groups, since you can't post ads on some private groups. I use Social Lead Freak (you can find it on BHW) to find these groups.

Now it's time to upsell some services.
If you made a good job, you should have the trust of the biz owner by now. Try to find what they would need and you can offer.

Let's see:

  • SEO Services
  • Mobile Sites
  • Mobile Apps
  • Reputation Management
  • And so on ...

Right now I've sold services like facebook likes, mobile sites, appointment system for dentists and fanpage design.

Hope you like it and have some ideas to add your own twist on this.

this idea was posted before... but its a good idea.

designing a site is the one that is abit hard.. i dont know, from my personal experience, people want the craziest websites.

Good to see it's working. It looks easy.. Paradoxically, 95% of BHW members go with 'the easiest' blackhat methods (like PPD etc) promising nice earnings on autopilot and they make nothing. (Of course few of them make some nice earnings.. that's true..)

Just wanna say why not try method like this :)

Yep method works great! We've been using Yellowpages to locate clients and work wonders.

Tried this a few years ago. It still works, but its NOT easy.

Yeah guys ... it really works ...
Today I closed one more client for a free site + mobile version .... The most impressive is that I only targeted 3 niches so far and still have leads to send email an call.

It should work as free always gets people on board. But, my main worry as I wanted to also try this method was that I read a few posts about hostgator not paying their affiliates for the sales... Is this a major issue with their affiliate program? Not asking how much you have made. Just wondering if you have actually been paid your commissions. GL!

I'm working on this for almost 15 days, so didn't receive anything yet.
The brazilian hostgator affiliate is diferent from US, but as far as I know, they pay here.

I'm thinking of becoming a reseller if I get like 40 clients ... So it would be a residual income.

Also I've made a good money with the upsells and I think it will become more easy as my portfolio grows.

Nice thread. Unfortunately IM in my country is not growing or growing super slow.. Too bad I can't apply this method as many IMers
make a lot of money using this method.

i have not tried this out. the reason is when i do sell a website they sell for $600.00+. i haven,t sold a lot of them (only 4 this year as i have other projects) but it seems to me that giving away a site is also giving away money. as a capitalist it is against my nature to give services awayfor free (or so cheap that they may as well be free.)
