Anyways, here is his complete process:
  • He isn't concerned about search volume:
    • Keywords with zero search volume (as reported by different keyword research tools) do not necessarily mean no one is searching for them.
    • He has 17 articles at the moment and a total of around 226 keywords for which he is currently getting impressions.
  • Focussing on a cluster of topics within a sub-niche.
  • Continuing to interlink between the articles as much as possible. In order for this to work more naturally, he planned on how he will tackle keywords to facilitate interlinking between the resultant articles.
  • His current plan is to write articles around certain topics within the sub-niche, which are super closely related - and then create a pillar article that will be a comprehensive resource that covers the sub-niche more broadly and includes links to the existing articles.
  • Objective: Try to become somewhat of an authority in that area of the overall niche. The hope is that when he expands to other niches, he can then interlink between articles of these sub-niches.
  • He sort of coined this approach "The MCU Method":
    • Be super patient and build up each sub-niche as much as he can - similar to how each Marvel character was given their own movie and introduction into the MCU.
    • Once each of these sub-niches is built, his plan is to then create an "End Game" scenario where all of these sub-niches come together.
    • Of course, he wouldn't want it to end at that point - it would just continue into another saga.

This is a great approach. We usually suggest people to focus on a micro-niche and then expand when you become an authority. This is the best case study for this strategy.

On a side note, please don't kill Iron Man at the end.

Yeah in recent days I've heard about 0 volume KWs doing good, even @Kikerinka talks about that in his journey
the major plus of these 0 volume kws is "no one wants to steal those KWs and traffic from your site", only you know the Real value of those topics :)

That's exactly true. It no doubt depends on the niche, and also the way in which you cover the topics (your writing style), but in some cases a "zero search volume keyword" can bring thousands of hits per month. And you are the only one who knows, that's the beauty of it... :)

Has anyone tried checking their "0 MS KW" in Google Keyword Planner? It seems to be better than most tools in determining the traffic since it comes directly from google.

Yes, even though it shows a range, that is still enough to understand the ball-park number.

Yeah, I watched a case study video by Saunn Marrs, and he basically focused on zero search volume keywords to reach I guess 20k pv/mo.
 
No, it's not a ranking factor but if you rank in the top 5 or 10 then the chances will be increased to get clicked by the searcher.

Let me give you an example,
Before a few months back, one of my client's keywords got ranked in top 5, as the keyword has good volume so he was happy with the ranking but not for the click. As there are 4 more competitor's who get the most clicks and we were not getting enough amount of clicks.

So, we planned to put a snippet star rating by Schema Creator and then after two weeks, we started to get clicked because we looks a bit different in search results compared to our competitors. So, this start rating helps you to make trust in the audience's eye and can help you to convert the impressions in clicks but not increase the ranking position.

Yeah, that's a very neat strategy.
 
BTW, How is the new update doing for your featured snippets? I watched some youtube videos of bloggers and they are losing a lot of featured snippets.
