I'm sure some of you are doing this. I never thought of it but working agency style (in contact with people) makes me miserable so I'm sharing it here.
How I came to this: I run one site gets reached out a lot for paid posts. Tons of people will really want to get a free link or a super cheap link. I had some of these who offered the triangular exchange (I link back to some other site). IME these people were often webmasters who had a bunch of sites.
But this guy sent link alternatives in a neat spreadsheet-like table (lol). The domain he was emailing from was a generic sales page that could describe almost any kind of agency activity. So, our editor used their contact form to suss out what they actually do.
It's genius:
0. Have a "marketing agency"
1. Contact example(.)com for posts or link insertion.
2. Tell them price is too high for your budget but you can get them a triangular exchange from a DR > X
3. Get the backlink from example(.)com
4. Bill your client 300-450 USD for link from example(.)com and keep 100% of it
5. Bill another client for content management (AKA blog posting on their own site)
6. Link from that client's website to example(.)com to close the deal
None of the money gets to the webmaster.

(FYI the domains had Ahrefs DR between 16-65 and mostly fairly low traffic.)
