Meta is set to do rival Twitter called Threads.
Meta is poised to unveil a new app that appears to mimic Twitter — a direct challenge to the social media platform owned by Elon Musk.

A listing for the app, called Threads, appeared on Apple’s App Store, indicating it would debut as early as Thursday. It is billed as a “text-based conversation app” that is linked to Instagram, with the listing teasing a Twitter-like microblogging experience.

“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow,” it said.

Instagram users will be able to keep their user names and follow the same accounts on the new app, according to screenshots displayed on the App Store listing. Meta declined to comment on the app.

Musk replied “yeah” to a tweet from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey saying, “All your Threads are belong to us,” along with a screenshot from the App Store’s privacy section showing what personal information might be collected by the new Meta app.

Threads could be the latest headache for Musk, who acquired Twitter last year for $44 billion and has been making changes to the platform that have unnerved advertisers and turned off users.
I don't personally like Meta, and I can see this as more CIA led censorship.

I bet some of the Meta employees were so triggered by Elon Musk buying Twitter and "bringing back free speech", they were sitting down and started debating whether they should make their own Twitter or not.
Linking it to Instagram is going to be a serious issue. First Instagram went all gun-ho about the video, now this. What's next, Meta Clubhouse Twitter like Spaces?

Seems they rushed the release.

Meta has been working on Threads, its Twitter competitor, for some time now, and the company has now silently moved up the launch timing by several hours.

As we first reported yesterday, Meta opened a countdown to the launch of Threads on the new “threads.net” website yesterday. That pointed to a launch time of 7 a.m. PT on the morning of July 6. That was further confirmed when an Easter egg was discovered within the Instagram app, which showed the exact time of launch.

Now, though, Meta has quietly moved up the launch timing for Threads.

Meta Threads will now be available starting at 7 p.m. ET tonight, or 4 p.m. PT, just over three hours from the time of this post going live. The timing is confirmed both on the teaser site and also in the Instagram app, as pictured below.

Then you have to get on there via Instagram

  • Meta will officially release Threads, its text-based Twitter competitor, on Wednesday night, but you can access your invitation now.
  • Type the word “Threads” into the search bar on Instagram, and you should see a small ticket emoji appear on the far right. Click on it to view your invitation.
  • If you don’t see a ticket appear in the search bar, you can also access the invite by clicking the three lines on the top right of your profile. “Threads” should appear in the drop-down menu.

No thank you.
