Meta Keyword Question

100% true for Google, leaving meta keywords filled in is basically a waste of time and only helps competitors scrape your keyword target list. Google, Bing and Yahoo ignore it completely. u should save your time and optimize your Title, Meta description and internal linking structure instead

I’ve heard that in modern SEO, keyword meta tags are completely useless—is that true?
Yes, the meta keywords tag is ignored by Google for ranking, so there’s no real SEO benefit in adding it. Focus instead on your title tag, meta description, content related, and internal linking.

google completely ignores meta keywords tags now so leaving them blank or letting plugins auto generate them has zero impact on modern rankings.

for international traffic though -- Yandex still considers them, and Baidu has historically used them too. if your target market goes beyond Google, worth adding them just for that.

Yes, it is true that Google no longer uses the meta keyword tag for ranking, it was a very old method and people used to misuse it, so adding keywords to it does not improve the position of the website. Instead, focus on quality content, correct title tags and a good reputation of the website for the purpose of user search. Meta description can still help improve the presentation of the website in search results, this is real SEO.

well, for my part, I abandoned the concept of using meta keywords in google some years ago. make better use of your time with title optimization nd internal linking. It could have been a good experience for some of you who had used them for Yandex nd noticed some improvement.

Yes, that depends on where your traffic is coming from. If you are focusing on Russia or China, I would recommend checking Yandex and Baidu instead of using Google statistics only.

That’s right. I no longer focus on optimizing meta keywords for my blog because Google no longer uses them as a ranking factor.

Focus on the words people actually search for and answer their questions properly. That will help more than adding meta keywords.

i stopped using meta keywords a long tym ago since google doesnt use them to rank anyhow instead, better utilise that time on seeing what terms are clicked on by people in GSC and optimizing titles

i think this is one of those SEO things where it is safe for a beginner to forget about it. even if u add twenty meta keywords, it is not going to do anything for ur rankkings on google. it would be better if u spent the time researching what people really search for.

Yeah, pretty much. Google hasn’t used the meta keywords tag for rankings in years. You’re better off focusing on your title tags, meta descriptions, and actual page content.

From what I know, meta keywords don't really matter for Google rankings anymore.

I'd focus more on the title tag, meta description, and relevant content instead, since those are much more useful for SEO.

As the rest pointed out, it pretty much is. I don't think that's been relevant to Google ranking for years now so you're probably fine not optimising it. But just to say, keywords themselves are still important, though better in their usual setting where relevant.
The meta keyword specifically is the one that's kinda meh.

Google stopped using the meta keywords tag a long time ago. I no longer optimize my blog with this tag because it doesn’t have any impact on Google rankings anymore.

jamforker's point about checking GSC click data stood out to me. I'd rather spend time on terms people actually click and fix titles than fill a tag Google ignores.
