I have a lot of review articles on my site and it is hard to create unique description for all of them. The question is it necessary to do that or can I just skip meta description and let the google show my first 1 or 2 sentences from the article? Will it be very bad for SEO? Or just create meta descriptions like Read this product name review and different names of products? Will it be duplicate content?

Although its not mandatory but plays vital role. It affects your positioning, ranking and ctr in search engines

Although it is not mandatory, however it plays an important role. For similar category articles you can skip meta and let Google decide what it picks.

But try to do it for maximum.

Meta Descriptions plays a major role in keyword ranking and position of your site. It is mandatory for whatever the pages you need to rank, for the remaining pages which you don't require rank you can skip.

You're not required to provide one. However, not providing one does have its negative effects.

If you are lazy to write the meta description for the site, then just let that functionality being handled automatically by a plugin like yoast.
But in order to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, please write your first and second starting sentence for your first paragraph, to contain your targeted keywords, as yoast will take the first+second sentence of the first paragraph automatically for your meta description.

Meta description is an important signal/indicator about what is inside your page. If you skip it then you loose the ability to propely guide google about the content.
