Meta ads acting weird, anyone else?

Hey guys,

I’m running ads on Meta (food niche) and something weird happened.
My ad spent almost nothing all day.
Then in the last 10–15 minutes, it suddenly spent the budget and:

1000+ visitors came to my site
A lot of add to carts
But very low purchases

I really don’t get it.
If Meta can find this many people, why doesn’t it spread it during the day?

Is this normal or is something wrong?
Anyone experienced this?

Yeahhh, that’s a common issue on Meta. Meta is actively integrating AI right now, so a lot of strange things are happening. I’d recommend cutting your ad budgets and waiting until you start seeing normal results

Yeah that makes sense. I usually try not to touch a new ad for at least 2–3 days so it can stabilize. But in cases like this where it spends nothing all day and then suddenly dumps the budget, I feel like something is off and waiting doesn’t really help. What do you think?

This has happened to me a couple of times, but everything went back to normal the next day.

If this is an ongoing issue for you, I don't know how to help you(
 
How long have you been running that campaign? During the first few weeks, it's normal, sometimes
 
This happens in Meta sometimes — it doesn’t look like a bug. They often spend the budget in bursts when cheaper traffic becomes available.
But the fact that there are many add-to-carts and few purchases is more likely an issue with the website or checkout, rather than the ads themselves

It’s still the first week of the ad, but since it feels like it’s losing money, it’s really hard to stay patient and let it run for more than 3 days with this kind of behavior.

Thanks for the explanation, I’ll take a closer look at my website and checkout process as well. Appreciate the insight.
 
This looks like a classic case of Meta's algorithm struggling to find 'cheap' auctions during the day and then 'dumping' the remaining budget right before the reset time to fulfill your daily limit.

A few things to check:

  • Budget Type: Are you using Lifetime or Daily budget? Sometimes Lifetime budgets behave erratically if the end date is near.
  • Bid Strategy: If you are using 'Bid Caps' or 'Cost Caps', Meta might have found the auctions too expensive all day, and then lowered its standards in the last few minutes just to spend your money.
  • Bot Traffic: Since you saw 1,000+ visitors in 15 minutes with low conversions, check your Google Analytics. If the 'Bounce Rate' is nearly 100% and session duration is <1s, it’s likely low-quality/bot traffic from Audience Network.
I'd suggest turning off 'Audience Network' if you haven't already, and maybe try a 'Lowest Cost' bidding strategy to see if it spreads the spend more evenly tomorrow

Yeah, my Audience Network has always been on. I was basically following Meta’s new AI recommendations and enabling everything they suggest. But after seeing this, I guess I might need to rethink that approach I’ll try turning it off and test again.
 
Sometimes Meta does not spend your daily budget evenly across the day, it can front load or back load delivery based on when it thinks
the auction will perform best
 
This is the classic Meta 'panic dump'. We see this exact pattern often when scaling Brazilian gaming campaigns. If the algorithm fails to win quality auctions during the day, it panics right before the ad account's midnight reset and blows the remaining budget on dirt-cheap, low-intent traffic to fulfill the daily spend. Those 1000+ visitors are likely bot traffic or accidental clicks from the Audience Network.

But at the same time, I feel something is wrong with your targeting. Are you sure you set the right target?

Is it your own website (Shopify, WooCommerce) or any other?
 
This is normal, Meta sometimes spends budget late when it finds cheap traffic. Many visitors but low purchases means traffic quality was not good or not well targeted.

It seems meta algorithm may have held your budget to target the right audience at the best time. Ads can sometimes get more traffic in short bursts as it optimizes, but the low purchases could mean your website or product needs more tweaks to convert visitors. Its normal but testing your ads at different times can help!
 
i have seen this before meta sometimes spends money at end of day when it finds people but those people are not very serious so they add to cart but dont buy check your targeting and make buying process easy
 
To be honest, due to limited time, I’ve mainly been using Advantage+ and following Meta’s recommended settings....

I figured out :) learn deep about your product and find out what could be done. It should be laser targeting. You can even ask ChatGPT to help you. And try various ad sets to check which one is performing better.
