The title says it all.

Email marketing has been here and most likely will stay. It has the highest ROI.

Messenger marketing is new, it has open rates of 90% and click through rates of 30%.

Do you think messenger marketin is going to replce email marketing?
Is a list of messenger subscribers more valuable than an email list now?

Please share your thoughts BHW

No in its current form messenger marketing wont replace email, because anyone who builds a business around soneone elses platform is not building that business on solid ground.

Emails are owned by the marketer, so can never be taken off them.

Messengers are owned by the platform and so one day can be taken off you.

A very valid point, we are depending on a platform which is FB.

I share that same view also for SEO, building your site around a search engine and in most cases it is Google. If google decided to update their algo (and they do) your business will suffer.

Heck even if you are basing your business on ads. You are at the mercy of CPC and why look far CPC has been rasing year after year. Those who were using FB to do affiliate marketing back in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 are now having a hard in 2019.

I don't think it will replace the email for short and medium-term, but messenger marketing is promising, the open rates are huge almost reaches 95 %, a very good ROI
the only downside is you don't own the list compared to Email

We use both. Why would you choose one over the other? Doesn't make sense.

I use 3rd party sites to get traffic, but 100% of my marketing efforts are about getting an email so i control when and how i remarket.

You could use both. This is just a discussion which one do you think will came out on top. Will email marketing stay as the 1 or will messenger beat it.

Can you elaborate on what do you mean by 3rd party sites?
I am not sure if what I am thinking is what you are refering to or not.

What is your definition of "on top"? Who has the best open rate?

3rd party is anything i dont own. For example facebook.

My definition is of on top is which marketing channel with the highest ROI. Email is considered to be the most effective marketing channel with its return on investment.

I also think that the best way is to use both options. Messenger marketing will not replace emails in the nearest future.

Yes i would run an fb ad, influencer campaigns etc. But the point of the funnel is to get their email and hopefully break even on traffic cost with first round sales.

Then i can remarket to them pretty much forever for almost $0. And as discussed it can never be taken off me if fb decides to ban my ad, or the influencer increases their price or whatever.

I like your approach.

The only downside is we as marketers are at the mercy of CPC, however breakingeven with a OTO after they optin you are basically lowering the cost per subscriber.

Do you capture their email only or do you try to get them to subscribe to your messenger bot?

Open and click-through rate of Messenger marketing right now is what it was with emails at the very beginning :) A lot can change but I believe messenger will evolve and get even better in terms of segmenting people.

I do a lot of messenger marketing but I NEVER rely only on that. I always get their email as well, something I own and it's super easy inside the messenger with one click. I also share my content and redirect them to my pages and pixel them, not only with the Facebook pixel but Google, Twitter, Pinterest as well.

On top, I invite them to a closed Facebook group and build up a community there.

If something 'dies' I have at least 3-5 other options to reach/target them again - 3 sources that are free, and at least 3 paid for remarketing. You should never ever rely on only one traffic source, and should always build up audiences everywhere.

Email is old. People get spammed daily so they became less sensitive for offers.
Also: there is not a lot of room for mistakes, if more then 10-15 people mark your email as spam your way to their inbox will be x3-x4 more harder.
It's not dead - there is still a lot of revenue to be made.

At the other side, people who get pm on FB open it. It's not feels like spam, it's feels like a msg from a friend.

Spam email is pretty much dead, but if you focus on building high-quality email list, which you supply with actual high quality content then you can still achieve amazing results.

Messenger Marketing won't replace Email Marketing. Also, in my opinion those two are two different forms of marketing.

Thanks for your reply

Just for clarification when you send traffic to your landing page, you get them to opt-in to your messenger bot rather than input their email and when they are inside the bot you ask for their email, correct?
