Membership website - $100 daily

*Repost from another thread, but i want a bit more feedback so i will put it in this thread*

About my website
I currently have a membership website. Up and running since February this year.

The website is complete. I have a nice wordpress theme, and i currently have 7 active users. Since i first started the site i have had about 20 users in total. Some who have left, and others who's billing have failed.

User pays a monthly reccuring bill of $17 to have access to the blog.

The content
A simple niche. But not many people are searching for this. There is only a few other competitors on google, as i am one of the few results on the first page(depending on what keywords are used) on google.

My goal
Although this is not a journey, my goal is to get $100 a day from this website. I know this is possible. All i need is 178 members, and i can reach that goal of $100 daily. Of course, once i reach that.. my goal will be $200 and so on. But for now, my milestone is $100 a day.

Then i can go attend the University of Florida

See i have it all mixed up. Most people go to college to get money. I want to get money... then go to college. Although, community will do for now.

I know nothing about SEO. I did not even bother. I read here about it, and have considered join a SEO service, but just haven't really focused on that.

How the current members heard of the website... i dont know?

But this is what i have started to do in order to help me reach my goal...

Instagram
It's simple. Good for a newbie like me. I search for target audience looking for tags and specific user names. I have had this account for only a week and have 62 followers and following 700. It has brought me very little attention. I have offered users to repost some of my pictures in exchange for a free trial... and 2 users actually did repost. So i cannot say it is completely ineffective.

Do you think instagram alone will help me reach my goal?
What else should i do to bring members into my website?

Congrats on the success you've had so far.

You need to SEO your site. There's a basic SEO bootcamp on here, just search for it.

I do have a question for you though,

All you're using is a wp theme for your membership site?
 
Will delete the older one. Is that ok?

Yep, that is all i am using. Just a WP theme. The only page on the entire website that is not a WP is the registration forum.

I'd be curious to take a look at the theme. Mind sending over the name and developer of the theme?
 
You can post some very good and useful, "extra" content in your website that is accessible only from registered users, than promote page - for example in facebook or adwords. Users will register to download "extra content" and you will get registrations.
 
Thought about adsense and amazon to increase your incoming?
Would be worth a try :)

I don't think that affiliate will accept my website. It is a very clean website, according to a member that helped me out a bit. But, i don't know how much revenue that would bring me anyways, or if its worth the time that could be spent on marketing the actual content and services of the website.

I would not if people take a look at it. It's a simple free theme. I have some plugins though, a good combo of them the help me out.

Thats kind of how i have it set up already. I have a page that offers free samples of content ect.

Right now i have 20 members on a trial in the members area for 7 days - hoping that they can convert when their period is over. Any idea's?

If its a serious gig why don't you invest some $ in adsense? Very targeted facebook ads may help! Also go social with whatever you have!
 
This is a good idea if there is a target audience that really wants your content (e.g., professionals in a field where you have expertise). I suggest that you alternate between writing an article for the public (free content) and an article with only a public teaser (with the rest behind your subscription). This will let you get a lot of content spidered and shared, for traffic, while using the freebies to advertise your subscription service.

It's expensive to produce quality content, so you should really aim for 500+ users so that you can afford to hire someone to do it and have some leftover for hands-off profit.

Subscription / recurring billing is a really great monetization model because you can afford to advertise your product more because the lifetime value of a conversion by your customers can be much higher (in the hundreds of dollars). To scale this up, you should reinvest in advertising.

I agree with you, and that is what my plan is. I do not plan on stopping at 178 or 200 members. But, at the moment, that is my milestone for $100 a day. From there, like a few others said; i could invest on some adsense ads, ect.

Hiring somebody to manage content, is something that i have also thought about.
From experience, does anybody know whether it is better to hire someone you are close to, or somebody you do not know?
 
Lately, I see a lot of bait and switch threads from 2013 registered members, but if you're for real here are some common sense freebies that will change your life and get to your goal faster:

1. You have no ideea how you've got the current members? Ask them! Pursue the channels that worked already, don't try new ones untill depleted.

2. You say you've lost some subscribers. Mail them and ask them why they've canceled. Use their feedback to improve, get them back an offer more value for existing and new members.

3. Instead of selling 4536 $17 subscriptions, how about just one of $100 or maybe two for $50. It's all about perceived value.

4. And lastly, consider upselling your existing members. Develop a product, they are proven buyes, they will purchase once more from you. Open another level of special content area with EXCLUSIVE content that only the "few choosen ones" can acces, obviously after paying a higher fee.

It's late and I'm on my ipad but you get the general ideea. Hope it helps.

I do, and apprecaite it. The few members i have lost they told me - was due to not updating content enough. I fixed that problem immediately, and am now updating in no more than 3 day intervals. That is the most i will allow. But, i also didn't have the drive to since i had about 5 members total. Now, i have about 6 active members, but am treating it as if i had 100.

Idea #3 that you provided me with. Can you explain it to me further?
