Hi guys and gals,

I?m just looking for some honest feedback and opinions on an idea that has been buzzing around in my head for ages regarding a membership site. It?s completely white hat BTW?

THE CONCEPT?I would be aiming it at noobs and intermediates who would be interested in learning how to create their own authored DVD?s. By that I mean showing them (via video tutorials) from start to finish how to extract the footage from their camcorders, editing it in Sony Vegas with all the fancy intro titles, lower thirds etc, rendering it, then creating the menu?s in DVD Architect and finally burning their finished masterpieces to DVD.

That?s the basic concept, however, as paying members they will also gain access to custom made motion backdrops, lower thirds, motion DVD menus and case and disc covers and these can all be used for their own home movies for that professional touch. Naturally there will be new motion packs added on a monthly basis as well as more video tutorials showing numerous different things that can be achieved using Vegas.

And that?s about it in a nutshell?Anyone think there?s a viable paying market out there for this? If so, what should I be looking at charging for this on a monthly basis?
OR, am I completely wasting my time considering putting this into action?

I only ask all you black hatters this because unfortunately my marketing research and marketing skills leave a lot to be desired :p

All your feedback would be much appreciated. Feel free to throw in your constructive ideas or criticism?I can take it (I think) lol!

Thanks

You need to do some serious keyword/niche research on this. I can think of a half-dozen sites right off the bat that offer all this - including how to sell those self-produced DVDs using Kunaki - with our without a membership option. If you're fighting for a small market that already has players, you're going to have to offer something big, different, or (worse) free.

Just my $.02. :D

@Robertodelgato,

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated...So you know of sites already offering this kinda stuff? I've never come across any personally in my searches (maybe their keywording and ranking ain't that good...who knows?)

Care to share their web addresses so I can check them out for myself? (just out of curiosity of course)

Just to point out though, I don't expect it to be a unique niche with no competition...No matter what ideas people come up with there always seems to be someone else who thought of it beforehand. I suppose it's a bit like saying to people, "Don't enter the internet marketing niche because it's already saturated", but people still jump on this band wagon and still make money from it! I do take your comments on board though...Just my $0.2 worth

Come on Blackhatters...Surely someone can offer some advice or helpful input on my membership idea?

Don't be shy ;-)

Edit...I meant to say add more input/advice as well as Robertodelgatos advice.

I am not sure you could make it a membership site, but a 1 time payment.

do research on niches like becoming a wedding videographer, [not a word?] or some other niche for making dvd. (make money making dvd's type)

I dont think the home movie niche will get you a a bunch paying customers.

If you need a testimonial or want to bounce ideas off someone pm me.

Edit: If you have special scripts or software that you can only access as a member then you can go membership way, but just the info and then a lessor amount of worth you will not be able to sustain as the goal is to hook and keep members.

Have you tried the Market Samurai trial? It's only for 7 days but it'll give you time to do your research and their vids are excellent.

Okay firstly thanks for your reply DrJekyll.

I see what you?re saying and I never gave that a thought about making it a one time payment deal. I suppose I?m so hung up on creating a membership site that I completely overlooked this option. Sounds like a good one and I may even take this route ;-)

I?ll bare your testimonial offer in mind?that would come in very useful indeed.
PS: I have DLGuard 4 with a simple drip feed add in script. As mentioned above, I?m over keen to put it into action.

Secondly thanks Pigsnog.

I?ve just jumped on this bandwagon over the last few days. I had MS installed but a lot of the features didn?t work, so I turned to micro niche finder. I managed to get it activated but when I tried to do a random keyword search I got a pop up window saying this copy of MNF is disabled (or words to that effect) So finally I?m playing around with Keyword Elite 2. Just need a couple more days to get it up and running with no problems (fingers crossed) failing that I may have to revert back to MS and find a fully functional version on this forum.

Appreciate all the feedback?Keep it coming ;-)

I seems for a membership site you'll need at least monthly updated new topical content to retain members otherwise it might be best for just a onetime charge.

you could consider that your next idea might be a lot better and sharing it on a forum not such a great start. just my 2 cents....

I would keep with the membership, just a one time fee.

If you do the work or hire someone to do it for you, even though people have the info to do it themselves, you will create a customer base that will PAY you to do it for them.

Yeah I think it's either going to be the one time payment option...OR...a free membership and hope to sell my products to the members along the line. That way at least I'll manage to build a database of (hopefully) interested clients.

I'm all ears lol!!! Please define better? Don't worry either, If I come up with a million pound idea I would definitely play my cards close to my chest...Loose lips sinks ships ;)

Never crossed my mind about them asking me to do the work for them...Geez, I must be asleep half the time lol!

I'm toying with the idea now of either going with the one time upfront fee or maybe even a free to join membership to grab all interested parties then hopefully I could sell products to them down the line ;)

why dont you do both,

free forum, with advanced training for those that pay a premium (kind of like jr vip) save your best training for that, still give your monthly custom made motion backgrounds to keep them coming back.

You will still build a base of paying customers (those without creativity)

Yeah I'm looking at it from a whole new angle now...Gunna take me some time now to put it all into place...Thanks for all your feedback, it's been a great help ;)

how about selling a package manual + tutorials + training + site template for them to start their own business? sell upfront or use a franchise model. you'll need to create some buzz (check out late 2009 trends, because of the recession people became more interested in diy/homemade products - how about teaching them to make "family DVDs" as gifts - you might get some orders as well, with Xmas coming).

Thanks for that OldMadHatter...Great input and idea! Got my work cut out BIG TIME now putting all the above angles into action lol!

I believe you've got something there, apart from the tutorials which will be very valuable, the fact that you have an updated member area with more
custom made motion backdrops, lower thirds, motion DVD menus and case and disc covers and these can all be used for their own home movies for that professional touch.

all this is very valuable, and there are many websites like animaytionfactory doing similar, so there is a market for this. People want vareity and I think it's worth chasing
