Medium vs Own website blog

If you won a website, you'll have total authority over everything.
Also, you could flip the site at some point if it's in an evergreen niche.
Look at it that way.

I was writing a detail blog post on the journey I had in my career, half way past its 3.5k words as of now, and would be reaching 10k words or so once I finish it.

From the start itself I was worried whether I need to post it on medium or as my first blog post in my website in my own name, which I planned to start with this blog post. Medium gets the content popular & ranked no doubt on it but on the other side they will be the ones which gets the traffic & not the personal site is one thing that kept me worried + the no index & banning the account facts adding upon my worries.

Any suggestions?

I suggest post such a post on your own blog, you can then post a summary on medium and link to your blog. However, I heard Medium is no-indexing all outgoing links on the free plan so no SEO benefit would go to your blog. You could have course get the paid Medium plan as an alternative since you are documenting your journey and not really promoting anything.

not worth it in the long term as other already mentioned above.

make your own site, produce content, improve off-page and on-page, earning, all is yours.

Post a snippet of your content on Medium after publishing it on your website

Medium is a great way to start it will let you know weather this is good for you or not. You can polish your content and style of writing from medium.
