I have never personally tried that. There's this vulnerability of the account being deleted at any point of time. It is basically your content their control. I'd rather put my efforts on my website, atleast it guarantees me the safety of content not being deleted.

Yes, medium ranks fast, but they are quick to suspend your account if they detect any form of affiliate activity. Also recently they have started to no-index articles that use their free service. However, if you get the paid version it is good for quick ranking.

Medium is great for exposure but you always want to have control over your audience.
Hopefully your articles are engaging enough to bring them to your main site.
Or perhaps expound on a popular Medium article on your main site and gain some visits that way.
But long term, your own blog.

How to check is the links are indexed or not?
I too would like to know this. Medium has worked for me but the noindex bit has me worried, it was going to be my place for generating backlinks/higher SERPs for a couple articles, and at the very least a way to have backlinks<>referring domains ratios go well with multiple links from there to my site until I moved on.
For reference, my site is a (legit) gaming news/blog publisher and has been doing fine with medium.

Press ctrl+H button in your browser after opening a medium article. It will show the source code. Now use ctrl+F to open the search button, in this search button type "noindex" and press enter to see if results are there.

I was writing a detail blog post on the journey I had in my career, half way past its 3.5k words as of now, and would be reaching 10k words or so once I finish it.
From the start itself I was worried whether I need to post it on medium or as my first blog post in my website in my own name, which I planned to start with this blog post. Medium gets the content popular & ranked no doubt on it but on the other side they will be the ones which gets the traffic & not the personal site is one thing that kept me worried + the no index & banning the account facts adding upon my worries.
Any suggestions?

Isn't Medium automatically tagging all newer content's outbound links as NO FOLLOW?

Go for your site blog, dont know when they will ban your account, all the contents will be lost.
Seed your own blog and do max social sharing as possible so that it start getting traffic. With this your blog can come in SERP for the keywords you proposed in that blog. So concentrate on your website blog.

Its better to go four your own blog, own content.
As, when you post on Medium, you may rank faster or may not get indexed , it depends on them who controls your content.
You can see through some discussions that posts on medium not indexed recently.
So its good for you to opt your own content.
In search of fast indexing, you may lost your content entirely.

Try posting your article on both your website and also on medium.
Better always to publish your original content through your own website blog first. When you publish through your website first, and then import your posts to Medium, you are getting the best of both worlds.

Would this not count as plagiarism and actually hurt the money site?

From my experience, it isn't duplicate content if you link to the original source. I did that quite a few times with descriptions of apps and games. But you can be sure that only one of that article will rank...and I guess this will be Medium
