I have wrote an article on Medium it got indexed on google and there is an insertion but no backlink is being counted does anybody knows why?

Medium links and links from such sites have little value these days. And it takes some time for the link to get shown up in the links section on GSC even if the page has gotten indexed. Wait for some time for it to show up.

Medium provide nofollow links so it will not pass authority to your website but if you try to rank your article then you can drive traffic to your website and it will really help

Might take time to be recognized or might not be counted if they lack relevance or quality. Ensure links aren't marked as "nofollow", use other platforms to share your content, and encourage readers to link back from their own sites.

It is likely they are no-follow links hence they will not be counted on backlinks

It takes time for links to show up in GSC and tools these days. You can do social sharings for your link and promote it.

If the backlink has a no follow , Sometimes, it takes a bit of time for Google to recognize and count backlinks.

When you publish an article on Medium, the platform often uses rel="nofollow" on outbound links, which means Google doesn’t pass link equity, and they don’t count as traditional backlinks. You’ll get the traffic benefit if people click through, but it won’t directly boost your site's SEO.

  • Medium often uses no-follow attributes on outbound links, which means search engines won't count them as backlinks.
  • Delay indexing
  • Irrelevant Backlink issue

Use chrome/firefox , inspect element in backlink

Medium might be using "nofollow" or Google is slow to update. Wait a bit, it should fix itself.

The reason your article is indexed on Google but no backlink is counted could be that not all links are recognized as backlinks by Google. If the link is marked as "nofollow" or comes from a less trusted site, it might not pass any SEO value. Also, backlinks take time to show up, so you might need to wait a bit longer for them to be reflected in your SEO tools.
