Medium as parasite, no longer working?

Trying Medium as a parasite site for low-competition niches, but my posts hit page two—Is Medium no longer effective for SEO? Any tips

Medium is no longer as effective as it once was as a parasite SEO tool. It is more difficult to rank because of their more stringent moderation and de-indexing of poor-quality content. Focusing on long-term assets, such as specialized websites or guest posting on reliable domains, is preferable right now. Medium is still effective, but only with original, high-quality content.
