Today we're bringing you an update to the Marketplace and Signature media rules. We'd like to explain what brought about this rule change and how it's going to work moving forward.
The Marketplace & Signature Media Section
For those of you who aren't an upgraded member, or are upgraded but you don't have a sales thread or use a banner signature, I'd like to explain what this area of the forum is.
In a nutshell, the media section is where all the images used for Marketplace threads and Signature banners are uploaded. While only upgraded members can upload something to this area, anyone can go and look at the images. In other words, it's a public area.
Each image gets it's own unique link and from there sellers and upgraded members can use the image link to build their sales thread(s) or put a banner in their sig.
What Created the Need for a Rules Change?
When users upload an image, they're prompted to fill in a title, description and tags for the uploaded image.
In recent months, there were some creative users who decided to start putting:
So, in order to keep the media spam free, we've updated the rules for the media section.
What are the New Rules?
Chapter 1, Section 1, Point 12 will be the overarching rule for both the Marketplace thread images and the Signature banners. However, we have updated the Everything You Need to Know About the Signature Space Rules thread to reflect this and reference the MP media rules.
While you can go and read the full rules in the above mentioned MP rules section, here is the TL;dr:
What CAN I Put in the Title, Description and Tags?
Here's a short, easy, and common sense guide on what to put in these fields instead of what amounts to spam:
Title: add a short, few word title that helps you identify the media in your personal media tab on your profile. This may be especially important to Jr. VIP or Marketplace Sellers who have multiple sales threads or needed to upload a few due to approval reasons.
Description: again, you can add a short few word description if your image is part of a series for a sales thread or whatnot. There's no need for long stories, sales pitches, contact information or keyword stuffing.
Tags: you can add tags that help you find your images faster but leave the "keyword" stuffing part out of it. You only need to use 1 or 2 tags describing what service it's for. Not 10+.
What Happens If I Ignore the Rules and Do it Anyways?
Well, as it says in Chapter 1, Section 1, Point 12 of the MP rules, you'll earn a warning.
The warnings could come in one of three flavors:
Of course, if the rules are followed as written, then there will be no warnings issued. If you're not certain if what you want to put into the title, description or tags is a violation, reach out to Support in a ticket and they'll be more than happy to help you out!
