Come hither children, gather round the fire and let me tell you a story.

I'm a freelance web designer and have been since I stopped education in 2008. Before that I was in college for 2 years and even then I was doing freelancing, I just didn't know it.

Since then I have only done whiter than white SEO. Truth be told on the most part I didn't do SEO.

I put up good content, not because I was hoping it would go viral but because I'm selling services and I need to impress.

I've never bought a link, never run shitty links to my site, never spammed, never cloaked, never 301'd old sites to my site or what ever.

None of that horse shit was ever done.

but I have been linking it from this site, for a long time.

It never interfered with ranking until last week.

I've gone from #1 in "web designer in (my town)" to page fucking 5.

This is a 6 year old site with no big changes made. Just regular blog posts and portfolio posts being uploaded.

WTF?

Now my theory, Matt Cutts, the cunt we all know and love saw my avatar, searched my shit, saw my portfolio and fisted me.

Could I be wrong?

Is there a more logical reason available, I think not.

OP, if you want to PM your URL I can look at your link profile - see if there has been any funny business going on.

I would say though that if you've built directory links - I've seen a lot of directory links get devalued in the last couple of months, which may account for a fall.

What you just said confirms my believe that G's only goal is to have a fully paid front page for every search. They are letting lots of companies have a taste of that first spot glory before they get demoted. And of course the only way back to the top is adwords.

I think you'll bounce back, once the bounce rate for the other website designers is shown as higher than a bob marley spliff.
 
I hate all these people that bitch at Matt Cutts. The guy is just doing his job and being paid bank to do so. WTF would you blame google for trying to improve the quality of the search results???? If you're going to bitch everytime your rankings drop just get out of the SEO game.

whether that really happened or not, we may never know. one things for certain though, he looks like a person that enjoys being fed dicks.
 
It has always been my feeling that linking to your own site from a site such as BHW wouldn't be wise. Of course we can all make a link to anything so they can't just scrape BHW and whoop the ass of any site they find linked to from here - but maybe some sort of manual review? Seems unlikely I know as there's too many websites for that sort of thing but better safe than sorry - I don't link to my own site.

Not really sure if you read his post. He said he never did any black hat SEO not even any SEO he just did what matt cutts says post quality content. Yet he gets slapped by google, anyone that bitches about google and matt cutts that use blackhat should shutup and not bitch but not someone that did exactly what matt FUCKS said was the best tactic.
 
OP, Over six years you've earned a lot from google organic, in return google wants to earn from adwords. It's time to start the adwords campaign ;)

Yea this is the story of everyone's life. People frown on blackhat methods but they say nothing when they do whitehat stuff their whole life and then google still penalizes them! Its messed up at the end of the day, but what can you do?

I say that there is no such thing as blackhat or whitelist SEO. Good SEO is whatever that is working for you at this time! ;)
