What I don't get is... Why would google want to get rid of spam. IF they generate PROFIT from it?
Think about it. If 'natural' sites were just sitting in first place, the majority of those people aren't there to stick adwords on their site above the fold. SO, say... When google PRE-panda was letting the spam through easier, then MORE webmasters were specifically optimizing their sites for ad revenue. And google get's more ADVERTISING space in more TOP SPOTS.
It's not like changing an algo is going to create less spam on the internet. If anything, it created more... With people trying to figure out what worked and what doesn't, and not EVERYONE is going to understand how the algo, worked so they'll probably just keep spamming harder and harder.
Now that many of the AD specific sites have died, it's less money in the pockets of google. So does that mean, they're going to go bankrupt now and fire matt? I think so...

Over the years, Matt has mislead webmasters about what is "acceptable" seo practices and what is not. Then, to turn around and target those same practices he said was "acceptable".
Matt and Google are known for intimating webmasters and seo industry. I think that this is another intimidating ploy by his part. Trying to scare BHW users, that he is watching.
I don't care if he is or not.
Matt and Google are nothing more than bullies and trying to strike fear into everyone.

He's there to raise the quality of the results when you search.
I mean, when I search for lift kits of sale online, I'm glad I find a store and not a MFA site.
Most of you will just disagree so that's all I have to say.
