Masked Domains?

Ok so here is my question.

I have a domain let us call it animal.org

I dont actually have any hosting for it, I am just forwarding the domain to another site, however I have masking enabled so that the domain shows up in the URL bar.

My keyword is "animal" and I am trying to compete with animal.com

Would backlinking to this domain even though it is not a real site show any improvements in the search?

yeah it would but you would but it also depends if you're using a rewrite or just a simple frame.
