Mask Manufacturing Business

Has anyone else considered starting a PPE manufacturing business in light of this crisis?

I don't mean "let's take advantage of the situation", more that this has brought to light that globally, we do not have sufficient supplies of masks, face shields, gloves etc.

My plan would be to initially supply solely the NHS in the UK at cost price, at the cheapest possible price to help them cope with the crisis. Challenges will likely include CE certifying the products, obtaining sufficient amounts of textiles and the initial startup cost.

It seems like China manufactures most of the N95/Surgical/N99/FFP3 etc masks. Bringing the manufacturing to a national level would be a great investment in my opinion, and it's likely after this crisis, much larger stockpiles will be needed which could bring huge growth and longevity.

Agreed except everyone and their mother (gov's) are getting in on this. My country is setting up factories so that we could keep with our own demands and hopefully export. I don't think normal people like us could match the level at which they operate currently. If it was a month or two ago, yeah but now it's going to be tight aside from that getting ffp1 ffp2 ffp3 etc. certs is hard and long process - from what i heard.

Yeah that's true, it would cost 100k+ to get the tooling for even small scale production, and all it would take is 3M to open a new factory to 10x any small production. I think the ship has sailed for mask production.

In some countries , this will not be beneficial. For instance, in my country there are already people making and distributing masks for free.

Everybody who has a sewing machine are doing it here. The governement has already given the instruction to create proper masks so that people can create their own due to the lack of supply. They took big factories to do it too to supply the medical field. So, it's not really interesting in my country.
I saw on news, that police officers are sueing people who sell it in France, because the governement are requisitioning them all.
So I don't know where you're at, but I don't think it's a viable way to earn money, even in a short span of time.
And didn't you notice that there are less new people affected by this virus since last week ?
