Marketing my new website

Guys,
Kind of looking for some guidance. I built a website but am having trouble getting traffic. What other proven ways are there to get traffic besides Google Search, CL, FB or twitter. Has anyone had much success posting in forums that your target demographic visits?

Don't waste your time on these things, do SEO.

The best traffic source in my opinion is video traffic aka Youtube. look around you. All sales letters and website home pages these days have video. Why do you think Amazon has video on the top right hand of all their pages? Because it converts better.

Learn how to create 30 - 45 secs videos and optimize them for Youtube. Once you get the keyword research right and do some minor backlinking you can get your videos on the first page with less effort than websites.

Then when they watch your videos and you have a "call to action" to visit your website for more information you will drive video traffic to your website.

First of all it all depends on the type of site you have.

Answer the following questions:
1) Who is using your site currently or who is your site for?
You can use google analytics, webmaster tools, etc to find this information. If you don't have any data yet, look at your biggest competitors and check their alexa and quantcast and see what demographics they use.

2) While your in alexa and quantcast, check out the Clickstream traffic.

Here is an example of the clickstream data from blackhatworld:

Clickstream downstream data represents where people go after they leave your site:
Clickstream upstream data represents where people are coming from when entering your site.
Majority of the time facebook, google and twitter are the top sources, but you'll find nuggets of gold sometimes. Hope this helps. See images

You could always try Adwords or some other type of PPC advertising. Those services are great ways to get lots of traffic fast. You could also try comment marketing or visiting the sites that your customer's frequent and engaging in conversion with them. You could do the same things on blogs that they read or on social media pages that they interact with. Become a regular there and offer good information; avoid self-promotion.

You can always try new methods by posting in yahoo answers and using pinterest to get some new traffic. By posting forums, surely you can get targeted traffic but you need some time to have your link enabled in most forums though.

Yes you can get a little traffic by posting links on different forums, this is however time consuming because you on many forums not have the allowance to post links until you have written lika 15 posts. So i would also say that you should focus on getting the website listed high in the SERP. Give it some time, it takes time to get a website to rank but when it does it's fully automatic traffic for your website.
