I prefer auto and see similar results with them as long as I keep it "natural" and controlled. The goal when creating automatic links is to "create manual looking links" automatically...as long as you can do this, automatic methods will work!
The thing is with that direct blasting, you can do it for your own site's and you do it the right way, but you can't do stuff like that to client's sites. Because if one day your site get's a manual review, your SB backlinking profile will shine.
