Hello there, i suggest do not use F/U method on clients account it's trash
If you are not confident about other methods like mother/child or mass dms my suggestion it's to pay ads..

according to me you may use follow unfollow method manually , as you know the audience you want to reach it would be easy for you to target very specific peoples ( men / women / both / business account , etc ) .
Secondly you may also use mother child method to do it , as its beauty is specific targeting without putting account at risk .
and you may try ads with small budget , and observe it works for you or not .

Manually it will take time but if you want instant results go with insta ads. Also make sure your client is ready to pay for that

Because manuals have never been able to assist in achieving a speedier outcome, and they are absolutely risk-free. If you promote as an ad, you will obtain a quicker result than if you do it manually.

Ads are known to not provide a great growth, especially since it targets first T3 countries (cheapest followers). By increasing the budget, you can get T1 followers, however these aren't filtered like you could with automation (F/U, M/C, mass DMs).
Chances are high that for 10x T1 followers gained with ads, you could have 20 of them by using automation, as it's cheaper, especially F/U. Automating only 1 account (client account) doesn't cost much and the ROI is good. I won't recommend it if it's an important account, but it can be done if one knows how to. Then, if the client wants to grow more, because F/U can't be made at scale due to IG daily limits, you may try M/C or another kind of strategy that is scalable.

Without any doubt, using ads, as is actually the only way for you to achieve your goals. By no means, you shouldn't use the manual follow and unfollow tactic, as this kind of activity is being sanctioned nowadays, as algorithms can quickly detect this spammy method and your profile will surely get shadowbanned which means you won't even know you're banned but your posts will become invisible to other profiles and you won't get any reach.

When there is a whole market around organic growth and manual F/UF/Like it tells you one important thing:
Their paid promotion sucks.
Never use ads to promote a profile or a service. The only way to use paid ads is via Facebook ads for products only - using retargeting. This is the only way to be more profitable than organic methods.
Not to mention - once you use paid ads, your organic reach will get destroyed.

Why not use both methods? There are plenty of variations of both methods, which are expanding further and further. I myself promote manually, but I also buy advertising. The main thing here is to keep track of your time
