Manual or automated link building ?

IMO for 1st tier always go for manual link buidling.

Tier 1 :- Gues post, Blog post, high authority links..
Tier 2 :- Web 2.0, bookmarking, article submission, blog comments etc..
Tier 3:- Blast them using tools like GSA, xrumer.
