Manual backlinking

Thanks for all the help so far. I've gotten my blog up to PR2 with nice theme and content. I'm still working on how to target keywords, being that my niche has so many topics to talk about (this is very hard for me right now). I'm getting about 60 UVs a day now with some traffic from Twitter and some from Google. Getting some ad clicks (so far about 20 in 2 weeks) but no conversions yet.

As far as with backlinking, how exactly are you all doing this the manual way? I can't buy any tools right now but will probably outsource on fiverr the next pay period for some backlinks. Do you use google blogsearch and just post random stuff on random blogs? I'm an active member of some pretty good forums and I've been posting there with my link in the signature, as well as with Yahoo/Microsoft Answers.

Do you pay attention to the PR of the blog you post on before you post manually? I did a google blogsearch and came up with a few blogs but they look like they were thrown together and had PR1. I didn't want to chance commenting on PR1 blogs as mine is PR2.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

PR doesn't matter much.

For manual backling (I still do), just type your keywords in google and use something like this:
How to remove acne "blog"
or "forum" "vbulletin", "comment", etc... just use some footprints with your Keywords and you'll find much Blogs/forums,etc... Make sure to check the PR of those sites, if it's 0 or N/A then it's no good to you.

There are many good tools on BHW at the download section (FOR FREE, yes free lol) which can find Blogs/forums, almost anything lol for you, so you can manually backlink on them.

Thanks for the reply. Do you bookmark any of the blogs and leave multiple comments per day? Or just one backlink and move on to the next?
 
I don't do much manual backlinking these days but when i did here is what i would do.

1. Pick your top 10 competitors in your niche and run their site through http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ and http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/

2. Copy down as many of your competitors backlinks as possible.

3. Go to these pages you scraped and see how your competitor got their backlink (Was it a comment? A forum profile? Signature?)

4. Acquire the same backlinks for yourself.


Hopefully this gets you going in the right direction.

Very interesting dude. I didn't know about these two sites to check for backlinks. I think this is a very nice method to start manual backlinking.

Do you know it'd be a waste of time to start manual backlinking if I was going to get scrapebox soon? Also, do you leave multiple backlinks per site? I don't know if google counts 1 backlink per domain or how that works.
 
Start manually grabbing backlinks now for sure. I wouldn't get multiple backlinks on the same site right away, but I would save/sort these pages I found into master lists which I would revisit later to comment on other pages or drop some different links.
 
Nice, thanks man. Feel like I have a lot to go off of already :)

As with the ******** or nofollow, should I even pay attention to that right now?

Don't think of scrapebox as the end all for backlinking. It's a terrific tool to find some backlinks, but it should not be your only source.

You have a great start to your site, you have built great white hat links, and I would hate to see all that work go down the drain because you start blasting away with scrapebox.

I own scrapebox, and have NEVER used it to build links to my main site. That isn't to say you can't, just do it smart. I still build most of my links manually, and really think it's the best way. I use scrapebox to harvest high pr blogs and urls to comment.

Now that you've mentioned harvesting high PR blogs, do you know of a free tool to do just that?

Get both... I do. It makes your links look more "natural" which is always a good thing ;)
 
Thanks, another question while I'm getting feedback. My blog only contains 1 page with nothing but posts. According to this site explorer by Yahoo, it just shows 1 page (not sure why it doesn't show page 2 of the older posts). Is there anything here I should focus on as far as with the pages?

There isn't one that's better than scrapebox. I think there is a commenter in the DL section that's free, but it doesn't harvest, so that doesn't really help you. Just keep at it man, and learn to use footprints in Big G.
 
Sounds like those pages may not be indexed...but I'm not certain. Run all your own pages through pingfarm.com to get them indexed faster.

Gotcha, thanks a lot man. Sorry for the ignorance but just wanting to make sure I'm not missing a term? Footprinting as using google to find good PR blogs to leave backlinks on?

Thanks, never knew about this as well. I'm assuming I'm going to have to do this every time I get another page of posts. I'm on page 4 and have only about 4-5 posts per page. 1 post per day.

Not necessarily, at least myself. I've been using dirgo SEO tools to find backlinks, but I've never analyzed competitors. With me though it seems as though one of the local companies out here don't really have many backlinks but a high PR, but at least it's a good way to start. Just glad to finally know how someone else is manually backlinking. My way of using google blogsearch kind of sucked.

Right. Like if you want to find wordpress blogs with your keyword, you would type in google: "powered by wordpress" your keyword
