If you ever tried managing dozens, hundreds or even thousands of autoblogs, you know what a nightmare it is? Imagine updating plugins and themes and checking stats? There are some WP Blog Managers out there, but they all have various limitations.

For a while now I?ve been using WPMU and the domain mapping plugin ? it takes seconds to creates blogs and map them to new domains! You can check stats of all blogs easily and updating plugins and themes is child?s play! Managing dozens, hundreds or even thousands of autoblogs is a piece of cake!

I will try WP MU and see if the plugins I already use in my blogs work fine on it.
 
Brad,

Seems very useful to build large number of autoblogs. How easy is that MU user friendly comparing with CPanel? Looks like initial setup is very critical. Do you have any step by step tutorial to setup MU?
 
How does this compare in relation to WP Cloner?

I'm close to moving to a tool that has this kind of functionality.

WP Cloner simply clones a master blog and its plugins/themes. WPMU & the domain mapping plugin can effectively do this and much more... Plugin Commander (http://wpmu.org/plugin-commander-111/) can automatically activate plugins for new blogs, and deactivate/reactiavte plugins for all blogs or individually.

Now you're beginning to get a taste of what you can do with this system...

For example, let's say you have 50 blogs in your empire (a very small empire), each generating around 5 posts per day, so that's a total of 250 posts a day. With a simple plugin, the urls of these daily posts can be emailed to your outsourcer in India - who promotes them for you!!!

You could easily launch over 100 AB's a day with this approach.

WPMU is great, and have used it for quite some time with domain mapping.

Another great post from brad! A pdf walkthrough would be really cool as well! My only concern with cloaking is that big g may use "secret" crawlers that are not identified as the g bot to compare results and catch cloakers. Though i don't know much about this so i may be totally wrong.

I think my question here is how do you effectively identify all of g's crawler bots safely?

The cloaking plugin above is only used for a day or 2 while you lightly link-spam the subdomain blogs; the plugin helps reduce or eliminate any complaints. Because it's short-term, there's no worries about spiders!

Brad, bit offtopic, how do manage the hosting issues of heavy server load having huge number of blogs?
 
There's only one solution - a dedicated box with a good hosting company! A good hosting company will help you address minor issues before they become major issues.

Sharing my secrets here...:p

How to: Get a dedicated box (or more as you expand) for the autoblogs, and plenty of dirt-cheap, different hosting accounts for link building. Takes a bit of time to get it all organized, but the pay-off is very good when you get rolling?

bit of a newbie here...

1. does the mapping effect SEO?

eg 10x normal WP installs vs 1x WPmu with 10x subdomains (mapped)

2. does all these blogs on one ip leave them open to possibly being banned (eg if one blog goes haywire & gets blacklisted will it effect the rest?)

3. how do normal WPmu subdomains with no mapping appear in search engines compared to either mapping.... or completely individual WP setups?

I am looking to setup a few auto-blogs to see how they go & am trying to assess the pros & cons.
