Since Managefltter is severely cutting back on their free unfollowing service soon, what's the best alternative? I'm not really in the mood to to pay premium yet... or ever.
I sent out a couple of tweets letting them know how bad it will kill the company. lol It will be pretty close to dead early 2018Yeah I had unfollowing limit at the time of 2900, because I was on it forever. It's 70 now like you said.
I'm pretty sure Managefltter is going to be dead in a year or so, because the free account users were the ones who made that site what it is, especially with the referrals and the majority of people who only used it for the free unfollowing. The $12 a month charge is stupid and the "extra features" aren't really valuable when you can get the same services for free elsewhere. Powerpost? Search? LOL no thanks!
I use that Chrome Mass follow extension for following already.. Never knew it did unfollowings. I'll have to look at it I guess, but I don't want to unfollow everyone, just the ones who aren't following back.
I use to think you were a douchebag, Thanks for that cool extension@heartofgold
manageflitter 2900 → 70 the limit for accs <4 yaers was only 2100
i think a lot of users will switch to chrome mass follow.
"Days followed (minimum) |_____| Profiles followed less than x days will be skipped"
You called them out on what exactly?I'm about 99% positive that them "forcing" everyone into a paid account is their weak attempt at raising money for their new SocialFltter website that they are going to be launching.
I called them out on their bs in the disquss comments under the paid/unpaid blog and they deleted it.
You called them out on what exactly?
Why would they need to continue offering something for free what costs them money? It's pretty nice of them, that they had a free plan for 7 years since they started their site in 2010.
Cry me a river.Their site wouldn't exist today if they didn't offer the free service. Nobody would have recommended it to others if it didn't unlock the ability to unfollow more people. It got big, because of email referrals PERIOD.
"It was pretty nice of them".
LMAO. Are you serious? Taking away bonus features that people earned that the company offered is ok?
If you say so buddy! /sarcasm
Cry me a river.
It costs them money to provide the service. It's in their rights to discontinue their free plan whenever they see fit and you can do fuck about it.
It took them a while, but they're getting rid of the freeloaders now, so they can concentrate on their premium members. It's not like this would be unprecedented. This is a working and frequently used business tactic to get a user base.
They run the service whether you pay for it or no, yes. But everyone who uses their service costs them money in resources. Tracking the stats is just one part what they do, there's the unfollow action, which consumes resources too. The more people use their free plan, the more resources are unpaid for. With referrals you refer mostly free tier people, so it's only generating more non-paying users and a few paying one maybe. They run the service whether someone is paying or not. They are still keeping track of followers and unfollowers if you pay $0 or $10000000. Getting rid of the freeloaders? Are people really freeloaders if they referred someone or multiple people who are now paying for the premium service?
No it's not a frequently used business model.. A frequently used business model is a company that grandfathers in what you signed up for in the beginning. Verizon, SIRIUSXM, etc... they grandfathered in their old customers. There are still people receiving SirusXM's lifetime subscription for example. There are people on Verizon with unlimited data plans from like 5 years ago still going strong today..
So no, it's not normal to take things away from old customers. It's normal to stop new customers.

Looking at it a bit more closely, they didn't even take away their free plan entirely, they only limited it. After the limitation less people will use that plan obviously and some of them will convert into paying members. Two birds with one stone.
Practically they were providing a premium service for free up until now by allowing free tier users to unfollow thousands a day. Now their free plan became similar to their competitors, where you can do 50 unfollows (with the bonuses) per day give or take.
In your examples you're talking about customers. Did you pay anything to use this service? Nope. You're not a customer. You're a free tier user. That's a big difference.
In the online word it's a frequently used tactic to build a user base and convert as many people into paying members as they can before the free plan is getting discontinued or limited.
Although it's also true that their paid plans are overpriced for what they are and only those (will) pay for them, who don't know better. You can get a fully featured social media management tool for their monthly price, something like Jarvee, which is good for 7 social media sites opposed to doing one kind of action on a single site.
The magic word is "was." You were a customer, so you weren't using their free plan at that time. That's when you can rightfully call them out, if they take away or limit features of your paid plan. When you're using the free plan, you have no basis whatsoever to call them out.I paid for a few months for unlimited unfollowing back in the day so yes, I was a customer at one point, multiple times.
And if server space is the real issue like you claim, why are they adding new features to the free tiered account? (Ability to schedule posts, searching, etc..) This is surely taking up MORE space than before.
I also dispute your "this was a premium service for free," because they have always had different priced tiers, business, etc.. that required payment.

Unfollowing thousands in a go is a premium service. Look around - this you already did, hence the thread i guess - and see where you can find this for free. Why do you think you have difficulties to find other sites which provide the same for free? If it's a free service, there should be at least a few other sites with similar offerings, no? It's just that Managflitter was providing this service for free throughout years and you're getting used to getting something for nothing. Which is understandable, if it hurts when it's taken away, but this doesn't provide any basis to call them out on anything at your present free tier user level.
Arguing about something like this is pretty pointless, it won't change a thing.
