I am not one to throw my business out there but holy shit, these past 5 days have been shit.

Fri - Got laid off from job
Sat - Wife tells me she is leaving
Mon - Car gets repo'd

I have been sitting here all day trying to find freelance work to try and get vehicle back but I cannot find shit. You would think it wouldnt be to hard for someone with 8 yrs web design experience to find work online but I cannot land anything. Tried all the freelance sites without any luck, replying on boards for people looking for help.

As for the family, been married 13yrs and I guess thats over. Having 2 kids it isnt going to be easy. We both have done wrong in the past but dang, give a man a little bit of a warning.

Anyone have any tips to help me find freelance work besides the usual sites? If I cant get my vehicle back then I cant go for interviews outside the home so a brother is desperate.

Well thanks for listening and advice.

I'm really sorry to hear that :(, I wish I could help more but web design isn't my specialty.

up's and down's are part of internet marketing.

you just seen your worse now you will see the best one's too, cheers

I know it's one of the usual websites, but have you tried LinkedIn? I'm sorry this happened to you brother Make sure to keep your head up, either way someway or another, things will work themselves out!

This is funny and sad all at the same time! With that much experience there must be something you can do, you might even have to go outside your realm of work. I work online and offline buying and selling cars just so I always have money flowing in, if you have a wife that's not very strong it doesn't take much for her to pack up and leave. Hope things get better for you man.

Man, sorry to hear that.

I guess November has been frustrating for everyone. Why don't you open a BST here?

You said it right:

"If your looking down, you will never rise to the top."

Nothing but the best vibes for you.

Well, up and down is a part of life, atleast Ones in life we see these things.

What are you expertise? if you can write articles or something, you can get freelancer work easily.

Thanks

I am hoping this is the bottom and all I can do is go up. Just have to drive on and not worry about the past I guess. If your looking down, you will never rise to the top, right.

Dude, you don't have a car!

Only joking Mate, life is shit sometimes, just got to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and get back in the game.
Worst case scenario, how much is your Wife insured for?
(Another Joke)

Go get yourself a decent single Malt, enjoy a nice drink and start planning your future.

How can I drive on without a car... HAHAHAHA

Ok, I couldnt help but laugh at that one. I am on LinkeIn, I dont have the funds to open a bst here, Although I have sent several PM's to members looking for design work done.

Just had to throw my week out. It was like one of them things where you just have to scream.

Probably not the best solution when I have 2 kids to worry about.

You have decent writing skills. Perhaps one of these fine Website Owners could use a decent, english speaking writer?

Dang, i feel for you man..... the other part can be fixed, everyone once upon a time has lost it all, thats not the problem, youre being broke is not realy a problem because if you want to fix that it can and will be fixed, its just a matter of time... the real problem is your wife leaving you after 13 years and all these bad things happening all at once, thats 13 years wasted, 13 years you invested with her down the drain, now thats F#*(ed up, even as the reader that makes me very angry and sad at the same time man, all i can say is I LOVE YOU MAN (No Homo) and EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK, stop looking for a quick fix and look for somethisustainable....my advice is, for 1week read everything on BHW, TRY READ METHODS, KEEP NOTES, PRAY, READ, STRATEGISE, THEN AFTER A WEEK OF CONSTANT READING COME UP WITH A GAME PLAN AND IMPLIMENT.... thank me later.

I am assuming you live in the US. Then well, in freelancing sites, ACT PREMIUM. Stress on your AMERICAN EXPERIENCE in a sophisticated way and stick to your PRICE POINT. Use ONLY ELANCE, don't bother with oDesk. The reason I am saying this is, if you act desperate and lower your price, you will come of as a cheap worker and you WILL BE outbidded by a cheap worker from India or Philippines. Don't go down that route. There's no magic pill of freelancing opportunities, this is the only option you have.

Do you have a stable IM business. If no, I really suggest beginning to work offline in this critical hour.

Wow... that post was one helluva roller coaster dude. Started off by reminding him precisely how sh*tty his week was(As if he needed that) and closed with some encouragement. Newbs... SMH

Yes I am in the US. So elance is better than oDesk? And I am trying to find something that I can make enough to get my vehicle back to get a 9-5 job outside of the house.

I might be able to help you get some writing gigs if you can face doing that.

Alternatively, i would suggest all of those well known $5 sites, the other well known freelancer sites, a thread here, and then the likes of c/list, g/tree etc.

Id then get on the phone and call every local business you can find in the yellow pages that doesnt have a website listed, say youll do it for cheap because you need to grow your portfolio (sounds better than "need the cash")

Wishing you all the best

Elance is heavily geared American and Western workers. It's geared towards QUALITY. Odesk is flooded with 3rd world workers. It's geared towards CHEAP. The entire IT industry (everything from programming to web design) is cornered by Indians on oDesk working at $2 per hour (often even $1 or less). Don't waste your time there.

Now the bad news. Earning money on Elance takes time AND you need to PAY to get a premium membership so that you can submit enough proposals. The basic membership is too restricted. (It's $20/month btw).

I don't know if you live in a city or in a small town. If I were in your position and living in a city, I would seriously try to get some local opportunities like being a bartender or making fries at Mcdonalds before bothering with IM.

Remember, IM is like a gamble, you almost never win when you HAVE TO win.
