Well recently I've been doing some research about where to locate my future company, which I will register within the next months. I stumbled upon a consultant (ccmalta.com) on quora that offered company registration/advice for Malta. After some long discussions with them they said the tax in Malta is 35%, although 30% is refundable, so the effective corporate tax will be 5%. Malta also has great infrastructure and IT services/fast internet.

It really sounds like the perfect solution for me, although I've just asked myself, why nobody else ever suggested Malta as a company location? Also, if anyone has a company in Malta, or just lives there/been there, can you please give me your insight about the country/island?

Regards ;)

Actually it's a known "offshore" location. It has a lot of great benefits, it's in the EU but it has very flexible gambling laws. That's also one of the reasons who most of big EU gambling websites have their offices there. They have a very good internet infrastructure.
It has a lovely climate, friendly people, people speak English there which makes live easier. The wages are lower than most EU countries which makes life cheaper there.
If your income is from another country then you don't have to pay any taxes on that (but of course since you're getting a Maltese company that doesn't apply to you).

My girlfriend and I have been considering for a long time to live there and last summer we visited it.

Yeah Malta is very nice, although a very small island country. If you aren't looking to live in a country where you are going to register the company, you should check Gibraltar, a lot of gambling companies are registered there so i guess they have a really good tax policy.

Are you looking to live and have an office there or just register your business?

Malta has 0 tax rates and is a decent place to make a business.

Office and Register the business there, I'm not really interested in living their full time, although it should be possible to go there from time to time.

Great location - wonderful warm climate and friendly mainly English speaking locals..

Don't forget the delicious food and tax advantages!

One of Europe's premier places to live and work...

I'm from Malta (though I currently live and work in the USA).

If you start a company in Malta with a real base or office in Malta (i.e. the actual work is done in Malta) the company's tax rate will be 35% on the profit derived from that work - just like every other Maltese company (individual tax rates might be going down to 32% soon; not sure about corporate).

I'm pretty sure that lower tax rates like the ones you mention only apply to companies which register there but don't do much more than just keeping a mailing address in Malta. As far as I know it's mostly financial companies and hedge funds etc. that use those.

My consultant informed me that I'll be paying 35% taxes, although 30% of that is refundable to the shareholders of the company, so I'll end up paying 5% in taxes, and this applies to ALL companies registered in Malta.

Im sure your consultant would know more than me but by what avenue is the 30% reclaimable ? I dont have any business in Malta but I do business out there with Maltese companies. Nice place to spend a few weekends a year.

This is what she wrote:

With the refund process you will end up paying 5% of the net profit that is created by the company. The Maltese government has adopted this system because the local industry depends heavily on financial services. Getting 5% taxes of businesses that would not otherwise have relocated or set up in Malta is still income for the country apart from the creation of jobs.

this is a nice place to be and to work, quite near from anywhere in europe. other country you've monaco (small and expansive), andorra (nice, but small), luxembourg, bigger but cold :)

The location and environment do not really matter. Taxes, Banks, etc. do. I also thought of Luxembourg, but I'm not sure how high taxes in Luxembourg are.

What are the top countries to base your business out for tax purposes?

Yeah this 5% thing is true. But it will cost you 2 000 € to open a such company that pay 5% tax. Normal companies pay 35% tax. I know because I live in Malta and planing to use this tax system for one of my companies.

Singapore, mate....wife has a business here...first 100k is tax free I believe...look into it.
