This. Why would anybody help their own competition? The pros that do this for a living had to learn through trial and error. Most that try, fail, because they run out of patience, money, or both.
Just to not completely discourage you, here's some personal advice and rules I follow that have, so far, done well for me.
If it sounds too good to be true, someone is trying to fuck you. This has been said over and over, and still every day greed gets the best of people. Sometimes you hear "If its too good to be true, it
probably is". That word
probably is what fucks people up, they think "well there's a chance...". No, there's no chance. Either walk away, or get the vaseline out.
Don't let your desire override your intuition. Another way to say this is; don't confuse what you want to happen, with what you know might happen. Before you slip into the dream of all the things you could do with the truckloads of money somebody promised you, slow down, examine all angles, do your research.
If someone is helping you, ask yourself why. As I said above, why would anyone help their own competition?
Never make business decisions when tired or intoxicated. Not a big problem in the physical business world (if you show up to work fucked up, you won't have that job for long), but when you work from home, some potential of this happening.
If someone will only communicate through PMs, off-site email, or worse yet, Skype only, ask yourself why can't they say what they have to say in front of everyone?
