Making money with Poker

Ok, it seems most poker players get enraged when you say that poker is gambling, they claim to be a game of skill and patient, and that anyone with enough of those can make a fortune in poker.

So, since I'm a total failure at IM, and I know some poker basics, I want to make some quick bucks with poker.

Does anyone know of some good methods, schemes or even poker bots to make some bucks with online poker?

I'm aware of two top rated poker calculators named as Holdem Indicator and Tournament Indicator, anything better than those 2?

Okay, I'm a Hold'em player... and a pretty good one, I like to think. Poker bots are a guaranteed way to lose your money, trust me. Methods and schemes will never work when it comes to poker. Go to Full Tilt Poker and play with fake money. Get good. REALLY good, then move on to the smallest blinds you can in real money. You WILL lose money before you make it.

In an early position at the table, play only the best hands, such as high pocket pairs or aces with a high kicker. Mid position, if everyone has folded ahead of you, you can play slightly lower ranked hands, such as kings with a high kicker or middle to high pocket pairs, or suited connectors. In the late position, you can play a little more generously if it's folded over to you. If you're in a blind and it's been folded to the blind, play anything! LoL

I should add: I'm not trying to be mean at all, I promise... but perhaps you should be concentrating more on getting your wife and children back than online poker.

i used to play for a living and still play recreationally. she is absolutely correct

poker isnt a get rich quick type game. it is a slow grind. i was getting big profits but that was over 50,000 hands a month! play live you get maybe 30 hands an hour and online each table gets 80-100 hands per hour.

if you are looking to make a huge win at poker, then i would try and play the donkaments and luck out but dont be surprised when you lose all your money.

in short, only play with money you can afford losing when you are a losing player and on top of that, do as grotesquegoddess says and start out small and work your way up

I used to play Party Poker sometimes and cashed out between 810 and $3200 a month. This was before poker was banned in the US.

I specialized in single table sit and go tournaments. Basically, you sit down with 8 or 9 people, and the winner gets 5x the buy-in, second gets 3x the buyin, and third gets 2x buyin.

A big secret is to NOT play many hands, and let other people get themselves knocked out. Sklansky talks about gap theory - basically, other people having conflicts only helps you. For example, if there were two other people at the table, and one knocked the other out, you'd gain even though you didn't do anything. Because now you only have to beat one player instead of take on two.

It's not easy, and relies a lot on feel. There also aren't as many fish around as there used to be.

I need to urgently double my money, I can invest in anything, anything, just want to be able to double the amount that I have now...

wow, well if there is one thing I can tell you, thats not going to happen. Are you even serious? Not to be rude how old are you? Do you think there is a magic way to double money?

If there was y wouldnt all of us just be doubling our money all the time till we were billionaires? There is some REALLY good money in internet marketing, but the one thing that noobs seem to be confused about is a sort of magic button. There is none, ill tell u that now. To make money its gonna take work, sorry to break it to you....

MakeLemonade is right about having other people knock each other out. I generally sit back when I'm first seated and let the other players have at it. It's also a great way to scout out the players and catch wind of their playing styles. Of course if I'm dealt a monster, I'll play it. If players see you muck hand after hand, they'll be fearful when they see you play one. If you look at the pros... they have a wide spectrum of playing styles. Compare the playing styles of Phil Helmuth and Gus Hansen. Eleven bracelets vs. None. Some playing styles work better than others.

As I explained in PM my friend... poker is about losing $300 just to win a $320 pot and even that's not guaranteed at all.

I'm 27, in the road for divorce and completely broke, and I'm well aware that with IM, it's never what it seems, but damn, there has to be something that I can invest my money in with a minimal risk of screwing it up and making something out of it.

even if it were +10% or 20%.

I'm 27 also... but I was divorced at 20, believe it or not. I understand the frantic feeling you are having, but it does get easier. Trying to double your money like this is not the best idea. I told you, sweetheart, to either write articles or outsource them. Go to the library today, right now and find a magazine from the late 90's, type out one of those articles into AC and make some money. Rinse and repeat. Make sure the content is not dated and still relevant. Health articles work well in this method. Submit 10 a day.

Do you realize that even 10-20% is a lot of money? Consider the stock market, a good hedge fund will have a 20% return per year and if they can do that consistently over a period of 5 or more years they will be all-stars. You NEED to work at this. Just pick something and get good at it. Don't go from craigslist spamming to ewhoring to poker to _____. It just won't work. People make money by being savants, not by knowing how to do a mediocre job at lots of things. Get a grip and focus.

I've heard about AC, I'm not in the US, I can be paid for upfront payment..

Some ideas from me.
1.Your english is good. Try article writing. Go to services for sale post a thread and you are good to go. Fastest way to steady cash. 20 dollar will turn to 200 dollars. It's really easy. Many people have started new and are earning.
2. Make a thread here saying grunt worker here. With your experience e-whoring you will very very easily get hired for atleast 20 dollar for 8 hours. Make it your day job and try out new methods in your free time.

AC takes time. You will be worrying when you will get paid and will be wasting time waiting. As I said make a thread in the services for sale section. Fastest and easiest way I can think of. All members will agree on this.

There's always selling your article writing services. It can be outsourced easily. Really, the possibilities are endless.

You've got to rid yourself of that poor person's mentality... poor people NEED money, if you change your mindset then you'll never NEED money again... you've first got to change your conext before you change your content.

Here's a couple words of wisdom I've received from some extremely wealthy/successful indviduals:

1. You've got to be willing to screw up. You've been conditioned all your life that making a mistake is bad. That FAILING is bad. Well let me ask you something. Do you know of any extremely wealthy or successful people that didn't fall falt on their face? I didn't think so. Trash the idea that failing is bad. It's NOT. Failure is a PART of success. The first time you tried to ride a bicycle you were guranteed to fall off the first time. So WHY does the system teach you that failing is not a part of success? Does that make any sense at all? Its surely doesn't to me.

2. There are ways to get not just a 50% or a 100% return, but an INFINITE return on investment. The guy on the 5 o'clock news won't tell you that. Your professor in college who has a phD won't tell you that either. In fact, I'm willing to bet that there are people on BHW who will say that it is not possible. That's all fine and dandy that others will say its not possible, but I know people who put multi-million dollar deals together on a regular basis using NONE of their own money, and if they do use their own money, they get it back in 2-3 years, PLUS they still are receiveing monthly cashflow from their investments.

3. It doesn't matter where you start, just GET STARTED. There is SO MUCH opportunity out there right now that it's absolutely ridiculous. People are practically giving away theirs houses right now. I know people who are buying houses for $15k and renting them out for $1000 a month. Tax liens in some states are paying 16% interest. Opportunity abounds. I could go on and on..


Just get out of your desperate mindset. Suck it up and move on. I know people who have been in a far worse situation than you... people who were $750,000 in debt because of a business that went sour. They got through it and are now uber rich. I'm not trying to be an SOB, I'm just trying to help you shift your mentality from a poor person's mindset to a rich person's mindset. MONEY is just an IDEA. If you just understand that one, you'll never worry about something as silly as the "lack of money" ever again.

You can take this situation and cry about it, or you can take it and make it one of the most valuable learning experiences of your life. It's your choice.

Now let me take some extra data I know of you.

1. A thread about how your wife left you because you quit your job and jumped into IM with 0 experience.
2. A thread about how you are going to quickly make money by playing poker, again with 0 experience.

Based on this data, I would be able to predict your next move will probably be a thread about easy FOREX money. Followed by a thread about Cash Gifting or MLM.

All of this is obviously 'delusional' so we come Full Circle and we're right back to you either being A. The most appropriately named member of this forum. or B. A troll who did it for the 'lolz'.

Take that as a lesson on proper IM, specifically a lesson on how to analyze a potential lead. Now please, send me your email address so I can send you some offers for anti-phycotic meds...

Poker is dodgy, I can play well in tourneys but cash games I don't do so well. I went on tilt last night playing Omaha Hi on 888 and lost over $300 in around 10 minutes
