I hope I am posting in the correct forum.
I am planning to create a local business directory website and I know there are plenty of site available online but recently noticed, that all of them are not focused my area. How likely a local business directory can generate some cash? Is it worth a try. Any advice will be welcomed.

rank the page say for dentist london and sell the leads

I think you can also make decent money by creating a local directory then contacting marketing agencies in the area and selling them links.

You can also email blast local business' and offer them to update their profiles for $5 a pop (or something along those lines).

I used to do this before Yelp was around. To me the market is much tougher. I've since gotten into reputation managment.

Sounds a lot easier than it actually is. Ranking is not a problem, if you are not prepared to cold call the owners or better still call on them you will find it very hard. I have tried email marketing and that never worked in my case. I have hired a reputable telesales guy to sell youtube video rankings and never ot a bite. Good luck

Marketing, Marketing and Just Marketing is best way to earn

The thing is this ... can the site generate leads or actual money for your supposed clientele? If not, then why would they want to even bother with you? Get creative, if you can even do what 1/10th of Angie'sList aka blackmail advertising shit eaters they are, then you can make money too...
