“Apary from social media”
If you wanna promote somewhere else besides social media, with a good budget you can get not only quality shoutouts and submissions from other artists and influencers, but radio submissions and TV placements as well
Most platforms have actually became ‘social media’
look at SoundCloud for example.
Like, comment, repost.. as social as it gets
that’s where you get your “fans” at man
what you could do is one of the following:
1. Presence
2. “The tekashi AKA 69 method”
Let’s go full millennial rebel and start from “the 6ix9ine” method
your thread have opened my mind completely.
the great mr. Hernandez became popular from the “RKO” viral video days, giving him a strong get go following to begin with
what gives the “RKO” rainbow dude some presence and a boost due to shares etc.
why not do the same? But different.
muse platforms such as Twitter and shoot your best shot and engage trying to make the best tweets and replies which are usually (ALWAYS) the funny ones
Of course being prepped from the start with a good Twitter profile with a good bio and links, it WILL start getting traction.
Always engage in your favorite artist’s posts, genre related accounts, *Insert genre name* news and so on.
Usually you’ll find indie artists and indie labels, shoot your best shot.
only the ones who dare, succeed.
Using your free hour to scroll the feed? Why not leaving a reply or something? What will it change? All publicity is good publicity for real.
1000 people have seen your profile, 70 clicked on it, even if 3 have played your music, YOU STILL GOT 3 PLAYS YOU COULD NOT HAVE. Simple as that.
That’s how it always been and will be.
Taking action is pretty easy, just like ‘getting the second mil after the first one’.
Now presence is included in the “6ix9ine” method but scaling it up and expanding is where you need to head to.
This means, use Twitter, use YouTube, SUBMIT your tracks to other channelsin exchange for your links in the description, submit your music to stores via distribution platforms (Distrokid, routenote, indiefy etc.)
you WILL get plays, believe that.
FORUMS, FORUMS, FORUMS!
Man if you think it’s “oldschool”, paying for promo ain’t? Maybe a newspaper? Social media is what you got. It’s the new era, and for musicians it’s the only way to get there fast.
the days you could see JAY-Z on the streets spitting flame getting taped are over.
Justin Bieber scenarios or any other sort of publicity are pretty much buried.
You CAN promote yourself locally.
Actually, it still works. BUT.
you NEED to set up your social media and streaming platforms so others could share your music and so people could easily find you and listen
Again, Spotify playlists, offering an intro to a new YouTube channel, collaborating on a track with another artist (There’s plenty of collab groups with talented new artists on Discord) and so on
Let’s be real and look at a method such as Google PPC ads
Really? I mean you will spend tons, but get a dozen.
At the end of the day, music is a product, but not a service. Nor a physical value. Music is for the sole purpose of entertainment.
Not getting to lines of what music really is since music got much more influence and used for a variety of things and it’s valuecan be priceless, but we’re talking finding fans etc.
You get a click, yeah you’ll might get a play but even if your music is good, the person that have clicked your link might not get further interested in your art.
It’s true, people are sheep. Not all, but if they will see a pattern, they will follow.
Let’s day your track is featured on a small indie channel.
People will take more interest and the change giving you a shot will grow significantly, since its coming from a credible/massive/popular source or whatever
If your track is $hit, but lil nas have reposted it, oh the irony in this one man.. even if soembody by some small chance have ever heard a familiar track and hated on it, most likely he will engage and play your track since “Lord Lil’ Nas X” himself have reposted it and so on.
you NEED social media.
you NEED social proof.
always WAS.
always WILL BE.
I mean it’s not that hard not noticing a pattern with all those artists
look at “SoundCloud artists”.
Uniqueness and a small following might play a role, the rest is history.
X (R.I.P) had his aggressive “fvxked up” Florida teenager mentality with fighting videos all around the web influenced by rock/metal or whatever which has drawn a certain group who showed so much support, he actually started to be taken seriously, got noticed by other artists and destroyed the charts.
Dude started showing his spiritual and emotional side, releasing music that sets apart from his agro influenced sound and not only his day 1 fans kept supporting him, but he knocked into a different crowd as well.
With the authority such a talented artist have built for himself, it became easier to scale it up and open to every possible audience.
So does his friend Ski Mask, so does SmokePurpp.. lil xan etc.
bro.. the good old mixtape days on the street and showing up to the club with some good mouth piece skills for a good word to mouth play and even a possible opportunity and an invite to a studio might happen
All I’m saying is that social media is where it’s at right now man
It just depends on how you look at it and use it
best of luck man
Share your handles or whatever I’ll support or might even have a point of view that’s missed
