Making Money Online - It Starts with YOU!
Ok, BHW, I want to start this post by saying that I definitely don't consider myself to be pioneering IM on or off of BHW, but the reality is that the modest success I've had stems from something which I believe is often neglected on BHW and which is why I wanted to write this post. At the end of the day, in whatever you do, whether it is your school/college work, your job or your online endeavors, the success you will have will ultimately come down to YOU.
Myth 1 - Your success depends on other people...
This first myth on success is probably a bit of a moot point which is why I want to clarify it first. It took me a while to understand this but there is a difference between working with people to become successful yourself and letting other people create success for you. Take a guess which one is the right attitude? If you guessed that the former is the right mentality then you are correct. The latter is less likely to be right in most cases. It is often a misconception that others will create success for you because people are often inherently selfish. Now, this isn't a bad thing or a totally good thing. The right level of selfishness will make sure that you aren't a bitch to someone or a bitch to society; realizing that you can break out of the common mold of expectation WILL allow you to realize your dreams. BUT, the other thing that is inherent in human behavior is that ability is often limited which is why you need to surround yourself with people who compliment your skillset. Finding the right people to work WITH you will see you far. To get far though can be hard, why?...
Myth 2 - Don't sell yourself short...
I say BULLSHIT; when you are starting out anyway. Like a lot of things in life, even if you are the best or pretty good at what you do, you have to start somewhere, and often that starting place sucks. What differentiates successful people from unsuccessful people is the speed in which they move on from their underutilized/under rewarded state. I had a project which I wanted to do, and this was probably one of my first projects a few years back when I didn't want to spend money which I didn't earn online in order to fund this project. So what did I do, I went around my neighborhood and worked and did odd jobs for 2 weeks, working 16 hours a day and ended up earning like $450 which works out to be something like $2/hour which is pretty shitty pay IMO. That said, I had a pretty decent plan and I then invested that $450 and I earned $2,675 (I will remember this number for the rest of my life haha) in the next two weeks working about 10 hours. At the end of the day, while I knew I could probably earned $20/hour working at a real job, I knew my hustling skills would get me their quicker. Finding a job can take weeks if not months, and while in some cases is more than necessary, I think hustling from the bottom works just as well to get you started. If you do want a job (entry level) then the best thing you can do is go meet people at the workplace in person, trying to submit your application on online to find a job is exactly what 3,000 other people are doing to get that job so you need to really separate yourself from that crowd. Essentially, YOU have to hustle early and then move up. Don't rely on anyone else other than YOU to go out and get you started. If you can't personally learn how to work hard or understand the value of work, how are you going to be able to work WITH people to make yourself more successful?
Myth 3 - IM equals easy money...
This myth is again a bit of a moot point because it definitely provide you with a great return on time than making money through traditional means of generating income. However, people often assume that because of this accessibility to market, relatively low start-up costs that people will make a killing in IM just because they can. Well, what if I told you that everyone who is "successful" in IM could/is more than probably be successful at operating businesses outside of the internet. Making money is the result of hard work, good thinking and dedication to your projects. Hell, IM is probably a lot harder in a lot of cases but people do it because it's accessible and not because its easy. Treat IM like you would treat a business.
Because you've understood that it takes a businessman (not in the traditional sense) to have a good crack at IM you probably want to turn a profit from day 1, right? Wrong! I'm sure you think you can sell an intangible pdf or service which doesn't really have a cost of production, but that doesn't mean you'll always want to turn a profit straight away, let alone need to. TBH I could probably think of so many ways to generate a profit right off the bat, problem is, other people are probable able to see this too and therefore although it's doable to join in, I'd much rather bite the bullet and operate on a loss for a week or two or even a month (if I can afford it) before I turn a profit. The reason being, if I can be prepared to lose money early on with the reward of money later on, then I know that there are probably several other people out there who aren't willing to do this which serves me well in the long run. When everyone sees that they can have huge margins and profit from day 0, then everyone is going to want a piece of that action. Bite the bullet and operate on a loss early, the reward will be awesome later on.

Those are just 4 Myths and big misconceptions that I've seen around this forum and IM in general. Again, I'm by no means saying that this is 100% the right way to think but TBH I think quite a bit of this needed to be said. Don't blame the methods or other people, take a good hard look at yourself and decide on whether or not you are actually willing to work for success, then decide whether IM is right for you.
