Making money from online games?

Has anyone tried / is there even a way to make money on some online game, probably an MMORPG like world of warcraft or something. Those people would be computer adicts and wanting some money from the computer. I have played some games where you can send a message to everyone on the server but that costs some money itself. Any ideas on this?

My first business online and how I got into internet marketing was selling MMORPG virtual currencies.

We had suppliers in China who we bought from cheap and sold to people playing the game.

In the beginning profit was great.. but as more competition came profits slimmed to almost nothing.

Right now it's not a good business to go into. There is just too much competition.
 
yea i would think right now it wouldn't be very good money. Since when i played some of these games there r so many sites selling virtual currency now. thats a good idea though
 
i think the competition is too high now for this to be profitable. You won't make much profits now.
 
is there anyway other then that to make money off of an online game?
 
good ways to reek benefits from it or is it just a good game

I would recommend another monetization strategy for this online games. You can monetize them with surveys, monthly subscriptions etc, lots of different ways. I would also look into facebook apps. I remember creating a facebook app a year ago when that market was hot. I got HUGE traffic almost instantly and was a great idea, but by messing up on the monetization model (I used paypal payments) it eventually failed.
 
I would like to know if you can make money playing MMORPG's too.

I started playing "The Mafia Boss" for a while because someone told me the winners of those games get like $2,000 in cash for winning a round.

The trick of it is, is that the players who have "real" money buy turns or even fake game money and they are the guys/girls who win because they are pumping in cash for upgraded memberships to ultimately win because they get more when they "buy" more.

I guess my final analysis is that you need to spend money to make money in that game.

Any ideas?

you can sell runescape accounts leveled up with bots, there was a thread aboot this some time ago.
or you can squeeze yourself into a position of a EVE online bank manager and run away with people's money, some guy did this recently and got away with about 5k, totaly legal, he was just banned because you're not allowed to sell EVE money for real dough.

Don't bother with that stuff unless you really enjoy playing the game. Or go play the lottery instead.
 
yea are runescape bots usually free? i know some bots cost money. That eve idea is cool too, do you mean like the people who sell eve money? i get into that business and run away with ppl's money without having any eve gold

I agree, don't bother unless you like the game. I didn't mention that I love that game, but the mob war is so crazy! I'm telling you, it's like a real war with families from other countries making deals, snuffing eachother out, it's as close to the real thing as far as emotions go, there is some real player hate in that game.
 
I've got lots of online games related traffic and I own gamers social network.
Level of monetization is really low. I would really appreciate if somebody hint me how to increase money flow :)
 
You know, I sold virtual items for World of Warcraft, Everquest I and II, Eve Online, Runescape, Star Wars Galaxies, Final Fantasy Online, LIneage 2 and about a half dozen other games and the only game I ever played was SWG.

I got into the market because of SWG; I made thousands selling credits to websites buying and selling the currency and so after awhile I figured these seller site's system and started up my own website to buy and sell virtual items.

Soon after I figured with account banning it was too risky to hold virtual items.

That's when I discovered the Chinese suppliers.

I struck a deal with a few of them to be my suppliers when I had new sales.

So I never had to hold virtual items, and I didn't have to risk account banning. That was half the risk there gone.

They delivered gold for me, I just had to work on the sales.

That's where internet marketing came into play.

It's how I got into Autoblogging a little bit. :)

Long story short, I saw that the business was getting harder with competition, so I sold it to another company for a few hundred grand and went into affiliate marketing full time.

It was a profitable couple years.

Fun times.

So, sounds like if you're already set up in this industry, it's still profitable[ish], but not somewhere to start up if you're looking for an easier path to building it big?
 
You can still make money with it.. but as I said before it's very competitive..

Also there is a steep learning curve.. and lot's of fraud to deal with.

Scammers like virtual items because they can get virtual items quickly and turn around and sell them quickly...

It's not something I would get into again.

Actually the ONLY game I would get into again would probably be Eve Online because you only have to deal with one server in game, they don't ban accounts as much, and there is a huge demand for eve isk.

But again it's still competitive..
 
It's tough to earn decent money from mmorpg without bot and macro. The real money not in mmorpg, you can earn a lot more by promoting gambling site, like $200 each $50 sign up.

Really? I always hear people were making money off wow, but EVE is not so much money driven (or something?) and you get banned really soon if you're caught selling isk. I always wanted to play it because it just looks so beautiful in those trailers but actual gameplay is rarely like that...
