Making money as a freelancer

Hey guys,

I'm a 17 year old high school senior, and I want to use my programming experience to make money freelancing. I have extensive experience with Java and Android, as well as Python. I take university level math (did Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra, now doing Differential Equations), and I am now using it to learn machine learning and data analysis.

How would I go about getting my first client? Of course, I would not charge my first client much, and if I had to, I could do it for free (if it significantly contributed to my portfolio). I live in the US, and so I eventually want to start making money at a US standard. Thus, in the long run I would not be able to compete with international freelancers who can set their prices really low.

Any advice you guys have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

And yep, I have Upwork and I'm trying to get projects through there as well. Thank you for the advice.

Write your experience, describe you projects that you already did in the past, give some 50-70% discount on first purchase but mention that you need feedback and go. If you're good only on BHW you'll have enough orders

Use Upwork to find clients. Make a software/ app that you think someone will benefit from.

Doind freelancer work is good but i totally recommend to work under a reputated pimp to earn big $$
