I'm trying to learn how to make a bot. I have no idea how and have searched online and here and haven't found anything. What I want is simple, just something to go through a site like flickr and favorite stuff, comment and maybe add people.

My question are, can anyone guide me in the right direction? With no knowledge of programming can this be done in a reasonable time frame (1-2 weeks). Thanks =)

    See the Perl language.

Specifically WWW::Mechanize - just search for it and you'll find tons of info. Good luck.

I recommend ubot for making bots without any programming knowledge.

If you want to invest your time in actual programming language, for bots I'd go with Java / .NET.

The graphical programing programs still require some form of programming knowledge most notably logic. They symply take the styntex out of coding.

Set, if, then, else, loop, loop while, etc.

I can't progamme for peanuts, but have created decent bots in Zennoposter. There's plenty of video tuts on utube to get you on the roll.

Search "programming" in the search box at the left upper part of this forum or you may look for tutorials on YouTube. Good luck in your endeavor.

Dedicate a month to learning C# by working through any of the tomes out there.
Then learn the HTTP protocol & HTML, if you haven't yet.
Botting isn't particularly tricky, as far as programming projects go...

Probably ubot would be good. Or hire a programmer from odesk or something.

Thats where I get my programmers for automation

    Learning C before HTML?

    Risky, but I'll allow it.

In fact, that might be the kind of intense metaphoric 2-a-day practice in 100F heat wearing full pads that budding coders need to get past the usual "I can do HTML & CSS, and some PHP" wall that so many 'developers' hit.

I agree. I started with vb.net and went to java never actually studying HTML, and simply found myself learning what I needed for the certain job at hand.

Im sure im missing some basic html coding, but im able to code enough to do everything needed.

OP, go for vb.net, dont waste time learning ubot or zennoposter, just go straight for vb.net.

Well, I'm also interested in learning to develop my own tools,

I've already started learning C# , I asked a friend of mine who is a coder full time writing bots for his clients that he uses c# and sometimes vb.net For GUI based bots and that he writes in phython for non GUIS.

If you have a look here : http://stackoverflow.com/tags

You can see that c# is ranked number 1 in the tags, which means that it is used by a lot of programmers. phython is not doing bad either.

Of course if you want to build super fast pieces of softare somehow like Xrumer and scrapebox , you'll definetely need to be going with DELPHI , but there ain't enought tutorials and courses around the net. Maybe you could find some decent books in your town's library.

Basicly , the best way to learn coding bots is to code. Stick with a language and learn to "master" it, (even thought it's impossible to use that verb). Once you have done this you can pretty much be sure that you can learn any other language using only the documentation that goes with it.

Programming is now becoming more and more important in our new era, in fact in Estonia they are teaching the children to start programming since the elementary school. No surprise when you know that skype was written by estonians.

SM754 mentioned HTML... HTML knowledge is necessary if you want to bot anything. I'm not saying that you need to be able to build a webpage from scratch, but you will need to know how they are structured. Knowing how HTML correlates to webpage structure will do you a lot of good when determining how you want to have your bot operate.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. I do have some basic HTML knowledge and have worked a bit with iMacros (not sure if that helps) so we'll see how this goes. Also, I know there are bots out there for Flickr but I was just using that as an example, plus I don't want to pay 20-100 usd every time I want a bot for a site.

I'm not looking to make anything like scrapebox I just want simple tasks to be done automatically. I'm not sure if iMacros would work for the example I gave (liking, commenting on and friending people on flickr) but if it would I would be ok with going more in depth into the iMacro world.

You can do this with a macro and no programming knowledge is needed.
